    SOS.. any solution for headlights?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

I did wet sanding from 600 grids, 1000, 1500 to 2000 for stonechipped headlights.and i did for about 15mins for each stage..

then i buffed with compound (tried scratch x, plastic x, turtlewax compound). I also tried with Rain X sealant spray.. but i cant even bring it back to the original color..

it only left a lot of bubbles and became very dull

i am freaking out and hoping to get this fixed... any solution for too much wet sanding?

I don't know if the UV acrylic clearcoat would bring back the color but as im not a professional detailer. I dont know if this could work...

    Please help me out guys...

I live in Queens, NY and willing to pay 50 dollars if anyone could help me out with this..

are you sure those were the right grits to use? i'm not familiar but just wondering, because maybe you sanded too much. i'm sure they can be polished back but i'd just take it to a local shop that can do it, they would prob charge you like $50 per headlight to polish it back up. and then after it's done yes the clearcoat will help smooth it all out and seal it up, and it's needed to prevent it from yellowing or hazing up again anyway, even with a proper polish you'll still need the UV clearcoat at the end to seal it up.

Try to finish it off with wet 3000 grit, then the polishing compound. That'll probably get you a lot closer.

Need help: My head lights are oxidized and had a professional take care of them, however they are oxidized inside the actual headlight. Any suggestions?

That doesnt look like oxidizing. It looks like it has very very small cracks in the plastic and unfortunately, if you do the wet sanding and such, it wont fix the problem

To answer the OP's original post, you need to spend more time on the higher # grit steps to "polish". You should get some 3000 grit wet sanding in there as well. Keep the headlight wet with water, and just spend a ton of time going over the surface. Get a drill and some velcro discs to make it easier on your hand. 3M has a headlight polishing kit that uses a drill, and it's how I got started. Keep at it. I would say to go back to the 600 grit, and work your way back up from there. Plast-X or 3M rubbing compound are the only products you should really use on the headlights when you're at the finishing stage.

Easiest solution yet costly is to find b8 halogen headlight housings and swap lenses. I did that with my ecodes and am happy with it!

I never had any luck sanding/buffing ever.
