    Third Row in S6 Avant

    First (real) post. Hello everyone.

I'm a novice car guy with a growing need to go fast. I'm also a single dad with a slew of kids. So i need something fast with more than 5 seatbelts. That's why I'm here.

My entry of interest into the world of the C5 was finding out about the Allroad and it's third row seat. After a little research I think the S6 is more my cup o' tea (but I still like that Allroad).

I'm a little confused though. Does the S6 have 3rd row capability? I imagine it doesn't come from the factory with all the seatbelt attachments, but hopefully all the mount points? I've seen a thread (on another Audi forum) that gives a little summary of parts and process to retrofit the 3rd row into an A6 Avant, but wasn't sure if the S6 was also a possibility.

If it's not, then it's probably the Allroad for me. But the NA V8 would be great...

    Thanks for the help

    Welcome!

It was an option available from the factory with the S6. There are vehicles out there - but most i've seen for sale recently don't seem to have the seat, but do have the required fittings and fixtures to support one.

You should note it's only designed for kids over 51 inches and under 78lb.

    2002 S8 - Daily driver.
2003 S6 - R.I.P. (parting out - PM me if you need anything)
    1996 LS400 - Wife's whip. Thing is bullet proof.
1990 Miata with FM Turbo - Pocket rocket.

See the silver circle on the left of the seat? That is one of three mounting points. Also see the cup holders in the left and right. That's indication that this Avant has the capability of a third row. I was in your position 12 years ago when I bought my wife's Avant. I saw the cup holders and what looked like a seatbelt dangling on the sides of the seats and asked for more pics from the dealer and voilą! Good luck!

(Now some don't come with cup holders, but usually a mounting slot to put one is available.)

The car needs the base mounting plate and rear seat belts at a minimum to support the third row seat. It's not just a matter of grabbing a third row seat off of Craigslist or eBay if you want a third row. If you want the third row and the car doesn't include the seat, make sure the other parts are there at a minimum. A Third row chair can be sourced without too much effort. Sourcing all the parts to make the car able to handle the third row is a lot of work.

Rear floors are different somewhat on the 4.2 cars. I'm not sure the 3rd row seat mounting stuff would even fit.

My car came w/ 3rd row setup...I have the window sticker and it was optioned that was originally- I think it was $350!
FWIW I can verify that the early/ late narrow-body 3rd row seat frame bolts directly into an S6 also.
