    Need Help Programming Homelink

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Right off the bat.. I have done multiple searches here as well as Audiworld and have not been able to find a solution so I am posting to see if anyone can help.

    Things I have done:

Confirmed the LED is lighting up so I do not think it is the two wires in the fender.
Reset the Homelink by holding Buttons 1 & 3 until LED started to blink slowly.
Depressed Button 1 until it started blinking then went to the front of the car with opener and pressed it just below driver headlight. I have held it for 60 seconds at varying distances and no matter what I try I cannot get the flashers to blink 3 times.

I haven't even been able to reach the step of hitting the learn button on the garage unit because I cannot get the bumper to program.

    Any ideas??????

Is your garage door opener homelink compatible?

It is a brand new Liftmaster Unit. I am pretty sure it is Homelink compatible because I had no issues programming my '13 S4 using that garage door opener.

Yeah it should be then. Maybe the homelink module in the car is bad?

The 08 RS4 does not work with the newer openers. You need a repeater. Do a Google search

Did you push the learn button on the garage door unit?
Got mine to work after I did that.

I don't have the Homelink system on my car since it doesn't have the premium package, but will it work with rolling code garage remotes?

That is why I was worried that I was missing something or could be a malfunction somewhere. I will report back once I receive the repeater.

I had to go to a repeater with mine. Even my 011' Q5 needed it. My RS5 works w/o the repeater

I bought the repeater right off the bat and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. It was frustrating. Months of me going out there, erasing the codes, reprogramming, etc. Then I realize my door openers are probably old enough to work per normal. Whalla! I'm such a dumbass... Anybody wanna buy a newsed Homelink repeater?

Repeater arrived today and programmed on the first try. I am glad it wasn't a step I was missing or a malfunction in the system. Thanks to everyone for the advice and suggestions. It is all good!!

Since we're on the topic of garage door openers and liftmasters. That's what is in my apartment complex's garage. All I have is a remote that has been programmed by the HOA. I was not able to get the homelink to work by using the procedure described in the user's manual, and I think I may need a repeater because of a compatibility issue (it's a fairly recent liftmaster). How is the code configured in the repeater? Can it simply be trained by "listening" to what my current remote sends out, like the homelink module in the car is supposed to do?

    Which repeater did you buy?

    Thanks!

I bought the Homelink repeater like the one in this link: https://secure.homelink.com/homelink...ter-kit-detail

It comes with a new remote and the repeater. You use the remote that comes in the kit to link with your car's homelink system. Then you must plug in the repeater in an outlet close to the garage door motor and leave it there (this may not be ideal because you live in an apartment complex). The next step is to press the yellow button on back of the garage opener so the car's homelink will learn the rolling signal.

Before you order the repeater, have you tried the pressing the learn button on the back of the apartment garage door unit?

FYI -- contact Liftmaster (or whichever company makes your garage door opener). I've got my repeater sent to me for free..would hate for you guys to pay for one if unnecessary.
