Just picked up an S5 and want to keep her looking right inside and out. Never did any kind of detailing in my life so don't know where to get started.

reddit.com/r/autodetailing be careful. It's a sickness. Check the wiki first. Also check out Larry from Ammo NYC's videos on YouTube. The wiki will give you a good start with products and how to's. Also check the posts out and you'll get a lot of good info on other products and techniques.

Between ammo nyc and adams polishes youtube channels you should basically learn everything you need to know to keep your car looking good. Just know how to do a proper two bucket wash and how to apply waxes and sealants. The rest is up to how much time you have and how often you feel like doing it.

I've heard of Adam's just checked out their site and 2 things.... one, the videos from the few I've watched are informative I will watch more tomorrow and two, I'm going to be spending a lot of money! lol.

I will check out the other sites you guys recommended tomorrow.

And B-Time thanks for the link, I've been around this site and never saw the detail forum, will check that out as well.

It's a sickness alright... You'll keep adding products and tools. I just picked up the Adams foam gun to add to my collection.

It's not a easy task to learn right away you can mess up your car when polishing.

With a circular polisher: yes. A dual action makes that chance pretty small, unless you're doing crazy stuff, or try to do a really old car without clear coat. Not an issue for OP.

For a new car if you wash it correctly from the start, there should be no need to polish for quite some time. Polishing removes scuffs in the clear coat by grinding down on it until it levels out with the depth of the scratches in the clear coat. So you're removing some protective layer each time you do it. I don't think it's something that is necessary to do with any regularity.

I can say one thing. I love the look of a detailed car. I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE doing it my self. Only problem with owning my car is the time involved to make it look clean then 1 drive and it's dirty :(

Is this off their website Mops? I've been looking into their products. Deciding what to get and I'm anal about how I clean my ride so I wanna make sure what I'm buying is worth the money.

Just watch a lot of this guys videos and you'll be a pro in no time. Gives me nightmares but it is good for a laugh or two. This is an extreme example of how-not-to.

In all seriousness this guy knows: Check out Auto Fetish Detail on youtube.

So the car is a 2014 and to me at least, it looks like it could use a polish and wax. Its a phantom black and the paint doesn't look like some of the mirror finishes I see around here or on the web. I definitely won't be doing the polishing, at least not now. I'm looking for detailer around my location in Putnam NY, Danbury, or Westchester. Then I will shampoo the car, do all the basic detailing until I feel comfortable enough to try doing any polishing on my own.

Thanks for the discount code Mops, will definitely be using it and thanks everyone else for getting me in the right direction.

Yes there was an unnecessary number of those recently on his page. Ignore that and ignore some of his rhetoric at the beginning of his videos. Chemical Guys and Adams also do some good videos, but they are very product-centric and are used to using 50+ different products to detail a car. Watch those if you want to end up with dozens of products in your arsenal.

    2 remarks:
    - washing: 2 bucket wash
    - before polishing: clay it.
