    2002 A4 Bi-xenon auto leveling headlights?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Did those exist?

I have a bead on a 2002 part out, but the owner knows nothing about the car. From the picture its the larger lens, which defaults it to a bi-xenon headlight. But I am curious if there is a possibility they are auto leveling as well. Did that feature exist in 2002? He is a good drive out and was just curious if I was wasting my time or not. For 100 bucks, I might just make the trek to find out. The housing is black if that means anything, which I believe it doesnt.

Is it possible to retro fit the auto leveling motor in? or is the housing completely different?

    Thanks

The housing as in the chrome part is black? Could it be graphite? That would be an S4 headlight and I think all of those were bixenon. If it's black black, it could just be modded. I think all factory xenons have to have auto leveling, but I'm not sure. If you want to retrofit auto leveling, you'll need the little arms attached to the control arms in the front and the back and you'll probably have to run the wires for them.

As userbob0001 points out, OEM lights were not black. They were dark gray. Post a picture and we could tell you what they are.
As far as auto-leveling, ask the owner if he could take off the back cover and snap a picture of the inside. The auto-leveling motors would be visible. See here.

all b6 xenons are auto level, and not all S4 headlights were bixenon, I've got a set of 04 B6s4 headlights in my 2002 and they are just single xenon with gray instead of chrome inside. The ballast mounts on the bottom just like the a4 headlights not on the back like the bixenon.

Interesting, I thought all S4s were bixenon. Looks like the 04s were single and the 05s were bi

I cannot confirm the actual color, I guess it could be graphite from the photos. The car doesnt look to have been modded elsewhere leading me to believe that they are stock, or someone threw in 2005 OEM lights...

I was looking to upgrade my S4s to the "bi-xenons" posted. But I am hoping that the 2002 had the auto leveling feature. My S4 already has all the gear for auto leveling in the suspension and in the headlights, maybe I can just swap the headlight motor over?

Currently my 04S4 has single-xenons, but my wifes 05A4 has bi-xenons, both auto-leveling.

I think I might just have to check it out to see whats really going on. To me, it seems like they are bi-xenon auto leveling headlights.

Thanks for all the input guys.

All Xenon and Bi-Xenon headlights have auto leveling from the factory for those that came with it. Doesn't matter if A4 or S4. Seems for the OP, a previous owner may have put S4 Bi-Xenon headlights onto a 2002 A4, which should be fine.

Simple way to tell the differece:

Ballast: found on bottom of housing for Xenon, found on back for Bi-Xenon
Projector lens: 2.5" for Xenon, 3" for Bi-Xenon
Housing: two separate covers to access bulbs for Xenon, one large cover (that also holds the ballast) for Bi-Xenon
