Hankook V12 replacement over Michelin PSS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im running a 10 wide wheel. Currently running 275 30 20 Michelin PSS. Since i cant find ANY PSS in the 275 and 285 range. I am looking to try something else.
Which i happened to come upon the V12's. I know that the PSS usually run a little wider then other tires. Anyone have any feedback on the V12's?
Should i go a little wider with the V12's and run 285's?

And any real world feedback on the V12's? i dont track my car. i do however cruise at a "slightly" faster then the speed limit.

Had a set on my m6 and they performed well in wet and dry. Not a huge step down from PSS or contis if you're not constantly testing the limits. They were progressive to their limits when driving aggressively in the dry and a great DD tire for the price.

If you look at some old tests, these came in near the top despite being substantially cheaper and that was the reason I gave them a try. The V12 are a great tire but are not on the same level as PSS. That said, not much is on the level of PSS. I run the V12s on my A6 currently and you are correct to think they don't run quite as wide as PSS. These are a great value orientated tire and in my experience, do quite well all around. I've ran them on two other cars and suggested them to friends who were looking for good bang for the buck tires. All have thanked me.
Do it right, or don't bother.

Oh they did get a little squirrelly in the wet towards the last 1/4 of their tread but that wasnt a huge surprise

Thanks guys! I guess I'm going with v12's since I can't get a set of PSS.

I put V12 275's on my RS 7 a month ago. I was coming off a pretty bald stock set of tires. I was weary to go to Hankook considering the cost but the reviews did sound quite good. I can say that since switching tires I've noticed a large increase in road noise and sensitivity to road surface. I've never had a car that's been so susceptible to a change in road conditions as this is with these tires. When I go from blacktop to concrete the cabin has a radical change and sound, and then a bridge where it's typically grooved for ice, it's downright loud. I've also noticed that even while driving on blacktop it'll find a slight imperfection and give a humming sound until I make a slight correction to the steering wheel. I know this sounds picky but I've never felt so much road feedback from a tire as I have from these. To me it's not necessarily good feedback it's vibration, humming sound, and slight wobble since putting these tires on makes me feel like I have 4 bent rims. If these tires were on the car when I purchased it a few months ago I probably would've chucked it up to, "hey it's a very stiff car and you're supposed to feel every single thing underneath you". But the change was to obvious going from nearly bald originals to Brand new hankooks. When they were first mounted, my steering wheel had such a serious vibration at 70 miles an hour I had the dealer rebalance them. They did a road force balance again and said that one wheel could basically not balance because the tire had a light spot. It is totally possible I just got a bad set, but I can say that I've had a lot of frustrating experiences with these tires.

I had a set of the Hankooks on a previous car - they're OK for the price, but are no match in any way for the PSSs.

Ever think of trying some Continentals instead?

With the power high performance cars put to the pavement I just don't get the guys what want to go cheap on tires. Stupidity
at its finest but do what you want. You bought and expensive car and can't afford the extra $500 for proper tires? So who's life are
you actually willing to risk? Yours, Wife, Kids, buddy, Guy next to you? Good proper tires for the conditions give you that extra 10%
that is the difference between arriving home and bouncing off the guardrail. I came name you many cars that I personally seen
crashed that tire or tire temperature was the primary cause combined with driver error. The best tires are always seen at the track.
Why? Guys that race get it!

I can't say I agree with that logic in this case as V12s are a big upgrade over stock and are still a high performance summer tire. Even with V12s you have better rubber than 90% of cars on the road.

This is a ridiculous response. The V 12's are still a better tire then what a large handful of 'powerful' cars come with from the factory. Yes they are cheaper then some of the alternatives that fit the 21 inch wheels but to say they are crap tires and they're gonna pop and send the driver into a guard rail is completely overboard. I agree they don't have the best driving characteristics but I would not say they're made of a crap rubber compound or design.

When you are over 400HP on the street tires and I hear "They don't have the best driving characteristics" I rest my case. My car came with P-zero's. Those or PSS will be the replacements. I am open
to other option but only after I hear a reviews on the same car. One P-Zero is not the same as another. Manufactures ask for certain things based on the handling traits of the car. Example a rounder or
more square shoulder. Softer or harder compound. On an A6 you are fine but once you go over the 400HP+ HP mark things change. Tires is the last place I want to save a few pennies or sacrifice a little grip.
Do all kinda mods and then lets skimp on tires. Take you mod car to race track some time and I will bet you the bank a stock car in the exact same model with sticky race rubber kicks your ass. I was out yesterday
on my favorite twisty when 2 modded BMW's jumped out of the turn lane to follow me down a twisty. I was glad I was running sticky summer tires as the car just does everything so much better. They were nowhere
to be seen after the steep down hill with 3 linked S's. I ran Vreds on my Maserati Coupe GT. They were cheaper, lasted longer and had a harder compound. I liked the way they lasted and also they way they would slide.
I could hang the ass end out and hold it there with the throttle. I am running PSS now and they are way stickier. They hook up rather then slide. If sliding they want to grab and hook up. Car is faster and more hooked up
but not as much fun to drive. And check your tire pressures. When pushing a car hard a 1/2 lb of air can be big difference on how a car handles. I have seen newbies at the track running an internet talk air pressure. Car was
all over the track. I took about 10lbs of air out of each corner and we tuned from there. He said his cars tires were junk. After the adjustment it was like a different car on the track. Tires are no place to skip on quality and adhesion.

Typically on the A7/S7/RS7's we go with a 275 35 20 (from your original post you said you were running a 275/30/20 which is much shorter). I suggest going with the 275/35/20 as that is the OEM Size, and the Hankook V12 has been a setup we have had really good success with. The new Evo2 variant of the Ventus V12 is great - but when it comes to tires, the Michelin and Pirelli WILL offer more performance, but for just daily driving, the Hankook is a great option.

Here is an image of an A7 we did a while back on 275/35/20's on a 20x10.5 wheel lowered on H&R Springs. Feel free to call us if you have any fitment questions and for the most competitive pricing on tires :)
