Anyone have a leaky thermostat on their SQ5?

Dropped our SQ5 off - a 2015 with maybe 15k miles on it - after the car alerted to an engine cooling issue. Wife was driving it but said the gauge never went above normal but the car dinged and showed the thermostat icon indicating there was a cooling issue. Popped the hood at the dealer and sure enough there was evidence of a coolant leak all down the driver's side coil pack and trans tunnel area. So we left it for them to work on.

Got a call back that it was a leaking thermostat. Well, I'm not that familiar with the engine but a leaking thermostat sounded odd. I thought they were normally housed INSIDE the cooling loop.

Anyone had a similar issue or is this a known issue with the Q5 or SQ5? Is there thermostat situated such that it can leak? The dealer is keeping the car 2 full days to complete repairs...so I am assuming that the repair involves the curing of a sealant or RTV or something.

I had a leaky water pump about 10K mi in., but I didn't notice anything collecting in my garage or an issue with cooling. The car didn't throw any codes either.

Not sure about the delay. They had to keep mine an extra day for the part to arrive.

I am having my water pump replaced as we speak. I started smelling the coolant smell after parking in the garage when I got home from work. I kept looking for a few days and finally noticed some drips on the belly pan directly under the pump. I never got a light or warning and my coolant level stayed the same. It was a small leak and I have 14k miles on mine. They will replace it not repair it.

Originally When I went in they said it was the thermostat and relplaced that a month ago. Still saw and smelled coolant so I took it back and they are replacing the pump now.

Just last night, after dropping off my traded A5 I spoke to the mechanic at local dealer. I asked about "What to watch out for..." on my new 3.0T Q5. First words were... "We have seen quite a few thermostats and a few water pumps ..." but other than brake pads, all seems to be well with these engines. He did add that "... you should drive it hard, at least once a week. Get on it, on the highway..." pushing the revs up and hold them to blow out an area that will carbon up if the vehicle is driven mostly in the city. I asked if this was similar to the 4.2, and he said "Yes, but it is not the valve area..." Because I suffer from CRS more frequently as I get older, I can't recall if he mentioned something to do with the intake and the carbon build up. Sorry.
