Need advice on a third party warranty.

So, I have a 2010 dsg. Stage 2 EPL. Tcu tune. Yada, yada...a lot of mods. And yes has been flagged td1. I'm getting a little nervous reading all these posts on failing DSG's whether it be just Mechatronics or the whole trani.
A couple days ago I encountered a "gearbox malfunction" light that put others car in neutral. I pulled over, cleared codes, and pulled away. No more issues since. And none leading up to it. No strange noises from trani, no slipping, no trouble getting it into gear, nothing!! Thinking it may have been just the tcu and ecu getting confused for a minute and messing with the gearbox's TCU. I have 53k on the car. And the whole trani was replaced at 35k by Audi while the PO owned it.
So, here is my question. Could I purchase a third party warranty for the car? And does anyone have any suggestions on companies?
I love the car and put in tons of time and money getting it to where it's at. I don't want to start over on another car right now. Any insight would be great. Thanks guys!!!

Most here go with Fidelity; others can chime in for specifics. You can probably purchase a third-party warranty at your mileage/age, but they usually explicitly mention tunes voiding coverage.

The bottom line: There is a chance that the warranty company sends someone out to check the car for codes before approving the repair.

And you will pay significantly more because you are already outside your factory window. It may not be worth the additional expense. Tunes should be cleared when doing warranty work as well. The warranty company can request that the car be scanned by an Audi dealership (work doesn't have to be done there). TD1 only means that at the time of work the car was not compliant, you can have the TD1 designation removed by Audi if you're flashed back to stock but I'm not sure how that would help you because Audi at this point won't care how your repairs are handled.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

if you read the terms and conditions section of most warranties, they specifically state that they will not cover you car if it has been modified. you could certainly argue with them on items than aren't related to an aftermarket part or tuning, but you're prob SOL with the DSG tranny and most warranty companies will look for a reason to not cover you anyway

with a 2010 and 53k miles, i'd save the $2500 +/- and stash it for when/if something happens

I got mine repaired using third party warranty. Company sent someone to check prior to approval.

    K. Good advice guys. I think I'll just hold off. Yeah 2500 is a decent amount of money for it, figuring that they might not even cover me cause of the tune.

Any mods/tune on your car?? Did they perform an inspection before they covered you?

sounds like you need the mechatronics circuit board replaced if you go that gearbox malfunction. I would do that right away so you dont cause any damage to your transmission. they might have replaced the transmission with the same model that was originally in it... which would lead to the same common problems.

    U talking this correct??

And is this a relatively easy diy? Or does it require dropping trani to get to it? Any diy steps out there??

yes. i say that because the bad wiring in the transmission could cause your check engine light / transmission warning.. but im not an expert.
