Need information on test results of electric cam adjusters

i tested both of a set on a car im working on and on neither does the piston actually move? it just like vibrates? one is alot weaker than the other and the strong one was on the side with misfires...... what does a test of one show? other than the hum and vibrate....... dont wanna spend an extra 1400 if i dont have too

Might help us more if you describe the initial problem the car was having and the steps you've taken to get where you are now.

Also do you have access to vagcom?

idk how i posted in the rs4 forum but its only an s4 but anyway im doing chains on a 4.2 and while its apart i wanted to replace everything that didnt check out
i read to check them put 12v to them and then reverse the polarity and make sure the piston moves? and yes i have vag com but the motor is completely disassembled
