    Dual Pulley E85 B8 S4 vs 997 911 Turbo

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've never made a "race thread" per say but I have a good friend with a stock 997 Porsche Turbo (2009).

We are planning on running the cars within the next few weeks. Any guesses assuming equal drivers and both cars manual? We plan on a few roll races as well as one or two from a dig.

My Dad used to have a 997 Turbo before trading in for a 991 Turbo S. The 997 is a very quick car but I think it will be darn close.

EDIT: Well, it went down today. My buddy was blown away by how the S4 matched up. Before we did the runs, we both agreed the Turbo would be 3-5 lengths in front by the top of 4th (130-135). We did multiple runs from 30-135ish and on average he only pulled half a length to one length on me. I would jump initially from the instant s/c boost and he would pull back at the top of each gear with those turbos. Even though I lost, I am grinning big.

I lost my gopro car mount but setup a crappy angle from inside the car with other hardware. This will give you a slight idea of how we stacked up.

Well on paper compared to the best stage 2 cars on race fuel it should be close straight line.
Real world road depending on starting and ending speeds etc. I'm thinking the 997T will get ahead of you... especially rolling... 500lb tq is a LOT.

We live in Texas with some very long, straight and empty roads. It will be safe.

Yes, this is a straight line test only. On a road course, I would get walked. Tough to compare a 4 door sedan to a 2 door sports coupe in that regard.

And to your point on the torque and the roll race, there is absolutely a bit of turbo lag in that car. I've personally put over 2000 miles on a 997 turbo and even with a manual, there was a slight lag between mashing the throttle and accelerating. That will be my chance to jump half a length.

IIRC 6MT 997 turbo's run high 11's at like 119... It should be a good race. I'm guessing you by a car. Try to get it on video if you can!

I was toying w/ a 997TT the other day, got off the same exit and I tried to keep up with him around the curve. Felt like the S4 was going to flip over, Porsche was flat and fast lol.

If you have that much windshield time in a 997 Turbo then you probably know better than any of us how it should end up.
Turbo lag is real - but if you know what you're doing behind the wheel it is a non issue.

😳 Looked like the 997 was standing still.

Nice race. However, a stage 1 RS 7 compared to stage whatever S4 is like comparing grapefruits to blueberries. Not even close to being in the same league, haha.

    Subscribed!

With your dual pulley setup and E85...I think it will be close!

    My predictions:
    From a Dig: Audi S4
    From a 50 roll: Porsche

1/4 mile I think you'd win. But any kind of roll, i think with the Porsche's torque and huge weight advantage, be tough to beat.

Good luck and have fun! Excited to see the outcomes!

Find it interesting that some of you think the Porsche has the advantage from a roll and the Audi from a dig. I think it will be the opposite.

My Dad traded his car 3 years ago, to which my seat time was 4-5 years ago....pretty tough to compare half a decade ago driving experience to my newly modified setup in my Audi especially when the driving experiences are night and day.

So I have no clue as to how they will stack up. I remember very specifically the turbo lag and that the car was very quick...but my car is damn quick now too

Dual pulley with E85 is no slouch. If DSG, I would put my $ on the auto eeking out a win between shifting and said turbo lag in the 997. Both being MT and assuming level playing field there, I'd give a nod to the 997. Rooting for you though!

Seriously, 911 Turbos are absolute monsters from a dig. People lets not forget the engine is in the rear of the car, they launch like GTR's and hit 60 in the very low 3's high 2's with the auto.

It's lighter than the S4, and puts down well north of 400 WHP. i don't see how the S4 has a real chance here unless he really can't drive.

The P car also has superior aero. He also weighs 500 lbs less than you do.

Come to think of it I would bet money on the 911.

Should be a good rUn given both cars are manual. The fact the OP has an aftermarket clutch and can likely launch at a inflated RPM will likely land the hole shot. From a dig I think the OP will win..... From a roll it may be a different story, regardless it should be close either way
