    Compress chain tensioner

Run chain between cams with 16 rollers in between marks on cams

    Slip tensioner in

    Drop assembly into head

Start replacing caps starting with center and working out

    Torque caps

    Remove tensioner

Put pistons all the way up, put head on. Install lower timing belt cover and valve cover, ensure mark on crank pulley meets mark on tbelt cover, then make sure mark on cam gear meets up with valve cover mark.

You don't. The tool is designed to thread in, compress the tensioner, and keep it compressed while the tensioner is moved.

I've done it will zip ties. It's a pain in the ass without the tool.

Squeeze it together and run a ziptie around it. Only thing is that it makes it a bitch to keep the chain on. But once everything is in place you just cut the ziptie and pull it out.
