Audi engine weights, these may be helpful to some in future, a sticky in the relevant section will be nice.

I'm putting together a list of VAG engines that are likely to find their way into the A4 B5/6/7 chassis, with their weights. I will also include some of the engine that are actually available in the B5/6/7 platform from the factory.

Please note, these weights are dry weights, they don't include air boxes, cooling systems, intercoolers and turbos etc. Unless otherwise stated, all the weights posted are from various Audi / Volkswagen SSP's (Self Study Programmes).

I have been unable to find data on the 1.8T 20V or the 2.4 / 2.8 30V engines, I will try getting it direct from Audi UK.

The TTRS 2.5 I5 is heavier than I would have thought. Factor in the turbo, intercoolers and pipe work, and it's not much lighter than the much larger 4.2 V8 40V.

The A8 4.2 V8 TDI is a monster.

I thought that the 2.7TT weight would have included the turbos? I also read somewhere that 2.8 30V weight would be 161kg?

How is that 2.7TT so much heavier than 2.8 30V (if that 161kg is right)?

Here are the engine weights from when I swapped the 1.8T into my car. I still have the 2.8 30V longblock, I can weigh it before I pull the heads.

The 1.8T (AUG) fully dressed (OEM flywheel/clutch, cat, downpipe, alternator, intake, p/s pump, starter) but without the a/c weighed in at 426lbs.

The 2.8 V6 (ATQ) with the lightweight flywheel, 4 cats, downpipes, a/c (but no starter), weighed in at 519 lbs.

Very late reply, but this thread will help many.

The older 2.2 I5 20V turbo motor is likely to be heavier than the more modern 2.5 FSI / TFSI.
