A6 C5 springs - are they that hard to find? HELP!!

    Hi all,

I've been given a 1999 4.2 Quattro that's been off the road a while. Everything else is coming along nicely and once this hurdle is behind me I should be able to get the MOT done and finally drive it but....

Both front springs are snapped; I've got them off and ready to replace but I'm having real trouble finding the right springs. The ones that came off were green/yellow paint marked so I want to go OEM and replace like for like if I can. It has air on the back and I believe sports sus on the front?

Does anyone know of any specialist suppliers in the UK that might be able to help with sourcing these? I'm having no luck at all...

    Thanks,

    Si

Best luck would be with Ebay to find used front springs (A6 4.2 or S6 type) or you could take the opportunity to put on aftermarket such as H&R or Eibach full spring set if you don't mind a drop in ride height. That would likely require you to upgrade your shocks/struts which you may not want to do.

wish I could help you out. I have an entire front and rear set of springs with struts off of a 50,000 mile 4.2 a6. But they are heavy and would cost a ton to ship to the UK I am betting

Cheers Suth. If I have no luck in a few weeks I might take you up on it - depending on the cost... Have a specialist trying to get hold of the pair as I type.

I can find a variety but none with the right paint marks which is suppposedly crucial.

Springs are specific to a chassis, gross vehicle weight rating, and type of suspension, that's what the color coding indicates. Different springs may physically fit but the car won't handle properly, or at least won't handle as intended.

If you're trying to order new springs from a dealer it might be easier to look it up for the suspension code on the build sticker.
