very quick review of JHM clutch

In prep for e85, I upgraded to the JHM stg IV clutch. I did not replace the FW but had my stock one (40k mi) resurfaced. The only other thing I upgraded was to some street density transmission mounts. I only have about 100 miles on it so far, but the clutch really retains the "stock" feel. Maybe 10% grabbier - which is honestly not a bad thing at all because the stock clutch is sometimes vague. I even had my wife drive home after I had a margarita and she had no issues driving it. I hope anybody replacing their shitty OEM clutch would upgrade to this instead.
The street density mounts transmit a little more NVH into the cabin but definitely cure some drivetrain slop. Very direct. It is a good tradeoff for me and I use mine as a DD. oh and I had the tranny fluid changed.

I was going to install the USP SS clutch line, but was sent the wrong part. Will break in the clutch for a few weeks then probably install the SS line at that time, so I hope to add to this thread in the future with additional thoughts.

very quick review of JHM clutch

Please for the sake of science launch the car and report back if you feel any weird clutch slippage or RPMs hanging and smell of clutch after its fully broken in.
A lot of even stock had stock clutches toast itself on very quick shifts and launches and you're the only one who retained the stock flywheel so it would be nice if we can save $1000-1300 for the flywheel by just doing a clutch.

Fingers crossed you don't start getting push clutch to start issues after doing clutch work!

    +1 for JHM!

Nice review. Good to hear these can be used with stock DMFW. Curious as to how you got it resurfaced though, as 4 shops I asked all said they couldn't do it.

It takes special equipment to resurface dual mass, so they are harder to find. I had one done locally in Denver for my A4, so it's definitely possible.

Interesting. I'll have to do some research. Thanks

Ya I will try a few launches prior to the SS clutch line. I experienced shift hang on hard 1-2 shifts previously. I was told my clutch had about 50 percent life left by the installer btw. I bet the culprit is the valved clutch line because it is designed to slip the clutch. In fact I can still feel it slip a bit after the new clutch/pressure plate and throwout bearing.

I replaced the clutch line and now I don't get hang anymore I get straight slippage but I bet my clutch is toast from all the previous hangs I've head with the oem valved clutch line.

I got a brand new OEM DMF from ecstuning when it was on sale for $450.00 - couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price! Awesome vendor!

Just an update: I have put the required 750 miles on the new clutch and now am running e85. Have not installed the SS line yet. I turned the ECS completely off and launched it from 4k RPM. Dropped the clutch actually and bogged it a bit but the clutch caught immediately. It hit so hard that the sunroof cover pushed back halfway. Shifted hard into second gear and no slippage whatsoever. I slowed down and waited a few minutes to let everything cool down. Then repeated. Still no slip, no burnt clutch smell, although I did feel a bit bad about flogging the car twice in such a short time. Continued to drive home after without any issues. My old stock clutch would slip on hard 1-2 shifts even though according to my installer it had about 50% life left. It is probably an issue between both the shitty stock clutch material and the valved clutch line.

Thank you that's greatly appreciated! If you don't mind check in now and then with some updates. I'm waiting for my clutch to completely shit the bed and I will most likely go your route since you're having no slippage issues.

Something in the tranny took a shit today. I have my hands on clutch/PP so I'm gonna have to go your way after all. Stage IV JHM and new stock flywheel if I find it for a good price, if not I have to shell out $1300 for a new single mass flywheel.
