    Spongy Brakes !

Hello AZ. I did a BBK and rear SS lines. I have no air in my lines, but I still have to pump the brake to get a solid pedal. I'm at a lost. Any ideas? Everything worked good before. If I have 0 air in each caliper line could there still be some in MC?

    Thanks - Brett

the Audi service manual says to do it in the order of FL, FR, RL, RR. and if you're bleeding the clutch you're supposed to do that first.

apparently this is different than most cars, but I'd follow the Audi/Bentley instructions

edit: not sure the method of bleeding has anything to do with it but the manual also says to use a pressure bleeder, maybe pedal bleeding works better from back to front?

Try it both ways; see if one is better.

Did you get air into the system or let the brake fluid run out completely while you were installing the new brake lines?

If so then you have air in your ABS cylinder. Take the car to an Audi dealer that has the OE Audi automatic brake bleeder pump. That pump bleeds at 2.4 bar which is necessary to push the air out of the ABS cylinder and various curved lines in front of it.

I had the same problem due to a clumsy mistake with a pressure bleeder that ran dry at the last clipper I was bleeding. No way to get the air out without enough pressure and I bleed for 2 days straight with no luck of getting the air out.

The way you bled was correct LF RF LR RR - as is stated in the Bentley manual.

I made a diy pressure bleeder (instructions can be found online), but I sealed off the cylinder for the hand pump and instead adapted the bleeder to connect to my air compressor with a regulator so it would maintain proper pressure. The Audi manual says to bleed with at least 2.5 bar for the clutch and at least 2 bar for the brakes.

Thanks all for the info. I did still have some air left in there. Still more to go as I ran out of time yesterday. I ended up picking up a harbor freight one( pressure bleeder ) Pedal is getting stiffer.
