    A6 Sport Suspension

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, new member here, just picked up a new-to-me A6 3.0T this past Friday and loving it so far. It's a 2015 model and I'm hoping some folks can help me decipher a few things... it's a 2015 Premium Plus 3.0T and appears to have the Sportline package (as evidenced by the door sills) but doesn't appear to have the sport suspension? Is this possible? If I wanted to switch to the sport suspension, can I just buy the OEM sport shocks & springs? Thanks so much in advance, I look forward to learning more about the platform.. Cheers!

Yes that is possible. The sport package was separate. Yes you can get the OEM sport shocks and springs but most will tell you to go with aftermarket stuff instead. It will get you lower than the stock sport.

Appreciate the feedback! Believe it or not, not looking to be low, just a tad lower than I am now. I was on KW V1 coilovers in my 3 series for 5+ years, I'm over it at this point lol. Just want a slightly sportier look and ride.

As others have said, the Sport Package is a separate option beyond the S-Line trim. I've got it on my 2015. There was a 19" Sport Package that included the sport (lower) suspension with All-Season tires. There was also a 20" Sport Package that had the same sport (lower) suspension with Summer tires. If you got a Monroney window sticker with the car it will have a separate line item for the Sport Package option and it will tell you whether it's the 19" or 20". The non-Sport cars sit a fair bit higher than the Sport cars, so if you post a pic, we will be able to tell you if you've got the Sport.

Yea not always true. I've seen sport pack cars with the 4-spoke and i've seen non-sport pack cars with the 3-spoke. Made it hard to decipher when I was shopping.

I believe the sport pkg cars have shift paddles. I've seen both3 and 4 spokes with paddles.

Did you buy it from an Audi dealer? did it come with the original window sticker?

I have a 2016 S-line with 3 spoke wheel, paddles & the sport package which includes the sport suspension..
like someone stated earlier post a pic of the car because the sport suspension sits lower.

I did not buy it from an Audi dealer and it unfortunately does not have the original window sticker. Here is a picture of my car as it sits in my garage, it clearly does not have the sport suspension..

Your right it doesn't have the sport suspension..
from what i've read the sport suspension is just the springs, the struts are the same part# so i'm sure you can just order the springs and install them.

Yep, she's ridin' high, lol. Others have stated that the Sport suspension is comprised of just shorter springs and the shocks are the same between both. I'm not 100% sure on that, but if that's the case, buy the springs from AudiA6A5.

I feel like even the Sport suspension on these cars still allows too much body roll, I'm assuming that there's no difference in sway bars between the Sport and non-Sport, which would account for much of that excess roll. I'm getting the Euorcode sways and end links installed next week so I'll be able to confirm if there's an improvement in body roll with them (all signs and feedback I've seen points to YESSSS).

So, if you want to really wake up your new toy in the handling department here's som suggestions:

    - Sport springs or aftermarket shocks/springs to improve handling and lower the car
    - Eurocode F/R sway bars (and end links if you want) to decrease body roll
    - upgraded tires on larger rims...I went from 19x8.5 ET45 rims with Goodyear LS2s to 20X9 ET33 rims on Continental 5Ps and the difference and improvement in handling and ride was staggering.

It looks like you live in MA, in which case you'll want to decide whether to go with 1 set of all-season wheels/tires (Conti DWS06 is a great choice) or 2 sets, 1 winter and 1 summer. The Conti 5Ps are summer only. The wheels you have now would make great winter wheels with a good winter tire.

The time, effort and money spent on swapping out to the sport suspension seems wasteful. There are a ton of other aftermarket options, that offer ride height adjustment as well as dampening adjustment.

The KW H.A.S looks promising depending on how good your struts are, there's eibach & h&r springs and of course coilovers, then there's air suspension.. i myself am leaning towards the H.A.S or coilovers i'm just not 100% on either one.

Great information, thanks guys. The research I've done leads me to believe the shocks and springs are different in the sport suspension. I can't imagine Audi would just throw lowering springs on the same shocks, the ride would be horrible.

With that said, I spent the past 5 years riding on KW coilovers and with two kids now, it's not a ride quality I feel is suitable as a daily driver anymore, especially in MA. For me, it'll be the OE sport suspension or nothing as I feel that will offer the best ride quality while giving me the ride height I want and a slight improvement in handling.

Hey I see you're in RI, which is really close to me. How many miles on the springs? How much would you be looking to get?

Hi did you get the sways installed? Impressions? I'm looking at both the C7 A6 and the B8.5 S4. I like the idea of having the bigger A6 since I'm 6'3", had back surgery last year and I've got a family to haul, but I really like the better handling, DSG transmission and more supportive seats of the S4. As I flip flop on which car to focus on, I was wondering if the sport suspension on the A6 might be the compromise I'm looking for. Are the sway bars the real solution?

Just so you know, KW V1 are the bottom of the heap other than their off brands like ST. Unfortunately, I've seen another friend with his nice KW V3s have more than one issue and I just wouldn't even recommend the brand anymore. Still, there are good options out there that do ride properly if set up correctly. You really have to do your homework though. A couple internet reviews isn't going to cut it as guys often lie to themselves and make them feel better about the money they just spent. Often downgrading in actual performance just for the look.
Do it right, or don't bother.
