Headlight washers? I had no clue my car had them

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
One day while in the driveway I pulled the lever to spray the windshield and noticed washer fluid was splashing at the end of the hood. Sure enough some sprinkler-looking nozzles come out of nowhere just below the headlights and spray the headlights. I'm not sure they do any good but it does look very cool watching it.

    Anyways just thought sharing it.

On the S4 they only operate while the lights are on. Don't forget about them after you wash your car.

Is yours a prestige? I see the cutouts on my bumper but have never noticed them come on. I've only had the car for about a month though. I have a premium plus.

lol, it was weird the first time they went off for me too, I was like wtf is that noise and where is that extra water coming from. It also blurred my headlights a little bit for a little while. seem kind-of useless.

you wouldnt think they were useless if you got snow and slush like we do in the northeast. I think they are mandatory in canada and also in europe.

I was reading a post yesterday that said the A3 didn't have headlight washers, don't know though. Turn your headlights on and pull the stalk to wash and you will know if they work.

They are more trouble than they are worth in extremely snowy/cold climates.

When temperatures dropped down during the polar vortex, windshield washer fluid froze in the lines, breaking the pop out washers.

Even before the weather gets that cold, if you're driving through a blizzard (i.e. Regular lake effect conditions) you'll find that they tend to get clogged from the ice that will build up along your leading edge of your car. Expensive to replace, easily broken, minimal to no benefit to visibility. (If it's cold enough to freeze your headlamps, it's cold enough to freeze your headlamp washers)

I disabled my headlamp washers. Suppose it depends on your climate, but it is very annoying when they spray soapy water over a clean hood

    exactly, all over the hood.

The cycle is to use the headlamp washers every x times the windshield washers are used. I think that the default is to use the headlamp washers every 5th windshield washer cycle. I changed it in VCDS to 1000. The other alternative to stop the headlamp washers is to put the lights in off position prior to using the windshield washers.

I was poking fun about your soapy water coment lol. . I'm well aware of how they work and you can shut them off completely with vcds.

Thanks for the insight. I was looking for a way to disable these headlight washers.
