this is pretty silly, but i don't like giving up the rear heated seat function, even though they rarely get used.

swapping out for recaro front and rear seats, but the rears are not heated.

is it major hassle taking the heating element from old seats and installing in the recaro seats?

Nope. It should not be difficult. I haven't taken apart Audi seats (yet), but I did others and it should be pretty straight forward. I recall a thread on this here, so search around.
Current: 2016 Audi A4 Allroad (in progress)
    Past: 2005 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro Avant / 6-speed / Ultrasport - SOLD

I'll look around, I'm sure it's been done. Way more complicated things have been done

the heating elements are glued to the foam cushion, your best bet would probably be buy new heating elements and glue them to the foam of your new seats, they will have the connectors and everything on them to just plug in.

yea, they are just under the leather glued on top of the foam, I tried pulling one off a spare seat I had and it started to tear off chunks of the foam cushion and the amount of pulling I was worried I'd break the element.

Maybe rear heated seats are not worth the hassle. I get no benefit from them really and so rare I have backseat passangers or need the seats heated.
    Still have the switches though
