    HID bulb choices

I searched the forum and couldn't find a specific thread. My passenger headlight went out last night and I need to replace, is there any danger in running the $50 sets of HID bulbs that claim to be "OEM"? I just don't wanna drop $135+ per bulb if I can get away with the less expensive option. Anybody running these bulbs? Or am I just being cheap?

What are (if any) the dangers of running the cheap ones? Am I going to just have to replace them more? Or is there a power difference as well? I've researched and found that the only major difference seems to be build quality and amour of salts in the bulb. If the cheap won't burn out my ballast I think I'll risk the lifespan.

its pretty much a gamble when youre buying cheap ebay bulbs. i struck gold on my fanless led bulbs.

im on my 3rd set on LED reverse lights which all gave me errors. all good tho, i got them for under 5 bucks.

    I ordered a pair of these http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/4871...S-Xenon-42322/

They're out of stock now, but getting them in 1-2 days. Note that they start off with a bluish tinge, then get bright white like the OEM.

They have 1 in stock of OEM. http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/8613...D3S-N10721801/

I just found a great deal on 2 xtreme vision +50% bulbs. 125 shipped for the pair. They are usually around 150 each. Going with that. More than I wanted to spend but I think I got quality stuff.

I'm running Osram CBI 5000k bulbs. Love em! I would recommend sticking with Phillips or Osram.

i got mine from theretrofitsource.com, some morimoto xb 6500k d3s bulbs, i think they were like $70 for the pair. have been using them for a few months now, they look great and are nice and bright, my old oem ones felt like they got dim over time but im happy with these and they were a good price, good brand.

No went in just fine no issues at all. The flickering/dead bulb was OEM. The other bulb was the exact Philips I bought.

These are fantastic bulbs! I love my x-treme vision bulbs -- been running a set since Dec '14. I think the version offered now is a 4800k bulb; reviews are very positive.

Skip the Philips Ultinon bulbs. Purchased a set and was pretty disappointed with light output.

I bought some eBay cheap D3S 6,000k bulbs when my OEM bulbs went out. It was $34.99 w/ free shipping from a vendor called Green Auto Accessories. I've had them in for about a year and they are still going.
After running them for 3 months, I took the bulbs out and examined for any scorching to the bulb and interior of the housing and everything still looks good.

I ordered Osram CBI bulbs last night... they were such a big improvement over the ~1 year old Philips bulbs I had in my Saab. Can't wait to get them and see how they are on the B8.

I have Osram CBI for about 2years and the right headlight is starting to yellow so I know it's about to go soon.
I've heard of these Super Vision +60% from different people and decided to give them a shot, for 20$ WHY NOT.
Let you know later tonight how they look.

Its always hard to tell on those shots, but yea, I tend to think your old Osrams are putting out more light than the Super Visions.

If nothing else, I'd say the beam on the Super Visions doesn't match the reflector as well as the beam on the old Osrams.

I believe you can code out the error with vcds. I changed to much brighter reverse bulbs a couple of years ago and all is well.

Yep. I've got cheapo Chinese reverse LEDs and no errors becasue I coded them out.

    Module 46 Central Convenience > Security Access 16 > 16017
Adaption 10 > Channel 181 > Convert your decimal number to binary (for example my default number in decimal is 65535, converted to binary = 1111111111111111), then change bit 10 and 11 from 1 to 0 (my new binary value becomes 1111001111111111, which is 62463 in decimal) > Enter the new binary value > Test > Save

I didn't even do his math. I just plugged in the new binary value above: no more errors.
