    Paging RS4 grille owners

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

For those of you who have the RS4 grille with a DETACHABLE rings bracket…. I have a few questions and need some help here.

I purchased an RS4 grille (pictured below) that came with the rings bracket detached. I tried messing around with it to no end, but couldn’t figure out how make that bracket stay on the grille.

My initial assumption was that the bracket had broken off the grille (not knowing it’s detachable). The seller of the grille then advised me that the Audi rings must be attached to the bracket first in order for the bracket to attach to the grille – is that true? I’ve been sifting through hundreds of picture of RS4 grilles, brackets, and rings. There is nothing from what I see pictures that would appear as if the rings would change the attachment mechanism of the bracket onto the grille. In other words, I don’t see anything in the rings emblem itself that would somehow affix the bracket onto the grille.

I’ve already wasted a whole evening removing the bumper and having to abort after not being able to make the bracket stay on the grille. Though admittedly I didn’t try (didn’t know at the time) that supposedly the rings must be attached to the bracket first, before attempting to attach the bracket to the grille.

Before I go waste another few good hours in vein, can someone with detachable rings-bracket grille confirm that the rings indeed need to be attached to the bracket FIRST, in order for the bracket to attach to the grille?

    Thank you in advance

    Appreciated

With the ECS one you had to attach it first (screws onto the grille).

    Paging RS4 grille owners

Interesting. My B8 RS style grille from ECS came with the ring bracket already integrated into the grille itself. Just had to move over my rings.

If this is not from ECS, since you said "the seller.." I might go ahead and just use another couple hours to see if their proposition infact is true.

This one is either different or the bracket broke off. Thought I doubt it since I've seen pictures online of other grilles with this bracket shown detached.

I'll take some close up pictures when I get home.

You should be able to easily see evidence of a broken off piece. With marred or snapped edges. In that event then I would explore a refund or exchange.

If that isn't in the books, maybe explore your own way of fixing it? Epoxy or something. Post some pictures when you can

Latest gen ECS grille (I ordered mine in the last 30 days), came with an extra (what I think is OEM) set of rings in a bag. The ring set has clips that go into your grille. Your grille looks different though, as mine only had 2 temperature sensor locations. Did you get a new set of rings with the kit?

Will do. I'll try the seller's advice to attach the rings first. We'll see if that does anything. Hopefully I'm not about to waste another 2 hours of bumper removal and reassembly.

No. Mine is off of eBay and is used, though the seller claims it was used for a couple of weeks before the previous owner decided 'to go a different route' - whatever the F that means. Seller claims nothing else should come with it, and I should have all the necessary hardware from the stock grille to install this one. The only things that came in the boxe were the grille, rings bracket, and an RS4 badge.

I was weighing out a grille from Amazon and eBay as well until ECS did their sale on the grille I wanted. From 240 to 190 shipped I think. I also did not want any issues with fitment or imperfections even though the price was considerably different. But, I'm glad the sale came at the right time and I paid more for a better product with also the backing of a brand that would make sure I was happy whether I needed to refund or something.

Yeah, probably should have done the same. I'll give it one more shot tonight to see if the seller is right. If not, this thing goes back in the box and out the door. I'll get one from ECS if this doesn't work out.

I bought the eBay grill for like $160 and compared it to another members ECS grille and I can confirm with almost 100% certainty they are made from the same mold and out of the same material. Sorry to say I don't think the ECS' grille is a better product in this particular case.

    Was your bracket detachable?

Negative, my cars a B8 also FWIW. I do know that some are detachable. A few of my friends used zip ties to secure the bracket.

Yeah, maybe I'll do just that. F it. Just super-glue the $hit out of it.

Umm why not try to attach the rings to your grille BEFORE you remove and install the bumper? This way if you can't successfully attach the rings, you haven't wasted any time pulling the bumper.

There's only a few tabs holding them in. Remove the top shroud over the grille and you should have plenty of room to stick your hand in there and pop those tabs out.

Also upload pics of the ring holder. Front and back. And the back of your grille. Sounds like you might be missing something.

No, there are some 10 screwes around, holding the grille in place.

Grille is finally on. Turns out the seller was right. In order for the bracket to snap onto the grille, the rings must be attached to the bracket first.

I wasn't talking about the grille. I was saying you could pop your factory rings off from behind without removing the bumper. This way you could test it with the new grille first before you removed your bumper again.

You can't get to the rings either. There is a grille support bracket situated right behind the rings. That's the bracket the Hone Link transmitter attaches to. It blocks access to the rings.

Doesn't matter.... I finally managed to swap the grilles.
