    exhaust for convertible

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking at buying a cat-back (and adding piggies) to my convertible (or cabriolet as we say over here).
I've looked at stasis, FI, magnaflow, apr and some custom systems.

I've had magnaflow before, on a mustang, and I love the sound it made. my worry though is that it will drone a sh**load in the cabin as it is a convertible. I still wanna be able to cruise with the top down at 50mph with going numb in my ears.

anyone here who has a convertible with a cat-back who can put in his/her 2c's?

I've got a milltek resonated, it came on my car when I bought it 4 years ago. When I first got it, I thought it was too loud (coming from a B6 A4 Cab) but I quickly became used to it and now I think it sounds great. But since I never heard the car with the stock exhaust I can't really give you much of a comparison.

You might get more of a reply posting it to the Cab group

I have the 2.5" magnaflow exhaust on my Cab that is made for the sedan/avant. The issue with fitment is in the rear crossmembers, so we had to lower those supports using some spacers. Will snap a pic when I'm home later this week.

There is a magma flo I had seen once that had a spring flap in it that would open the harder you stomped on it wonder if that would be good on a vert since it would be quiet under normal load and loud under WOT?

Doesn't the stock exhaust have something like that?

I had a resonated Milltek on my 2013 a5 and removed it because the drone was horrible. I had additional resonator put in to try to resolve the issue but it did not help. My ears were buzzing. I do have to say that Milltek was a pleasure to work with and they did take it back as they said the combo of the auto tranny and the vert caused the drone.

I have a 6MT, and from what I've gathered the drone is mostly in the 1500-2000 rpm range and with the manual tranny one is seldom in that range. It is more of a TIP-problem.

However as it is a soft top I'm afraid that it will be unbearable to drive the car if I go with FI or AWE or something along those lines. And as for Magnaflow we have the fitment issue as the RS4-system doesn't really fit the cabrio....
Milltek....maybe but that's only 2.25"...won't the performance suffer from that compared to a full 2.5" system?

Is it a full cat back system or just mufflers? And resonators

Convertibles actually tend to drone less than sedans with the top down, since there is no roof to trap sound waves and resonate within the cabin.

Did a couple washers do the trick for you?

More than a couple, but sure did. No rubbing of the exhaust piping at all.

but y'all have stopped making a system for the S4....and as I've gathered the RS4 system needs some modification to fit.

also to the rest of y'all.....what is the OE piping diameter? 2" or 2.25"? I might just build my own through modifying the OE-system

You can still find Magnaflow systems pretty easily online for B6... OEM is close to 2.25"

We haven't stopped! We do not have a B7 system at this time, but we currently offer kits for the B6 and B8s.

Yes, those mufflers will have the correct inlet diameter to mate up to your stock piping. Muffler #14816 would be the one with the larger 3.5" tips.

Alrigthy. Thanks. Will go for mf. Had it on a few stangs and I loved it

    Edit: Can't you just take the B6 S4 and B7 RS4-system and release a B7 S4-system? =) I like those quad-tips

Do you guys have any sales or specials on these? Also I was on the website to hear them and the soundclip didn't work? Does anyone have these installed? Would love to hear them.

At this time we do not sell directly, but you can usually find good deals on our mufflers online from summit racing, amazon, etc. The sound clip we have on our website is with a VW GTI, but you can get a better example from the video below. This catback on this S4 will have comparable mufflers to the #14816s.

Yes, the resulting sound would be similar, though not exactly the same as the catback.

With the Catback for the B6 S4 can you get more volume(sound) out of it? It does seem a bit quiet compared to other mufflers.

Our systems tend to be more on the conservative side for cars that are street driven daily. If you were wanting a little more volume, you could look to modding the components north of the catback!

The Corsa RSC fits without modifications on my B7 S4. Beautiful exhaust tips and sounds great. However the Pipe is necked down for the 2.25 stock dowpipes.

I used a set of SS autochrome 2.5 in downpipes, Catback section (resonator included) from an RS4, then I cut off the RS4 mufflers, welded in an H pipe at the front and intalled a set of Magnaflows, sounds BEAUTIFUL and no annoying drone

Thanks. I'll be using a set of the same type on my B6 A4 V6. I had used generic stainless straight through types (as I had a bunch laying around for free), but I think the packing has blown out, so I'll likely be replacing them with a set of Magnaflows.

Ask anyone around here and they'll tell you that I don't pull punches with my reviews of aftermarket stuff, but you guys seem to have a legitimately good product
