Instructions: External Video Input to MMI Screen/Phone Mirroring

example: my G3 doesnt output via the mini usb, but my buddies G5 does...

Has this been confirmed? I've seen a few similar questions in this post but no confirmation.

I've bought (and returned) 2 of the cheap 3rd party AMI RCA cables which show up in the MMI as "device not supported"

Wondering if it's worth spending the dough on the OEM cable although the description on Audi's site indicates compatible with MMI 3G+.

I have a 2010 B8 S4 with VIM, MMI nav, multimedia, etc. I have all the other parts and they work together as I've tested them on my TV. The blocker seems to be the AMI cable.

Would really love to know if I'm chasing a dream here.

This thing works great and in my opinion is a total no brainer for someone who does not have Android Auto or Car Play. Looks excellent. It appears you still need to use the microphone cable for sound on Android but I bet there's away around that >>> use Bluetooth.

Either way it's a super clean and effective method to get the job done.


Plug the box into a usb power supply (lighter power port). You probably already have one in your arm rest for your phone. Don't worry you still can charge your phone through the box!


Plug the composite cables into the AMI RCA cord

Plug your phone into the box with USB (it charges too!!!!)

Switch to the Media input and change to external video.

I'll redo this post with pictures from Tapatalk since the damn forum on desktop won't let me do it....... booooo hissss.

thanks for the recommendation. it was really easy to hook everything up. IF you're still following this thread, can you comment on does your screen fill up? I have a lot of space on either side of my MMI screen. Not a big deal, but just wanted to see if that's normal. Watched your video a few times, but couldn't really tell. Thanks for the good work!

thanks for answer. I understand that RCA cable from China may not be the same like original Audi cable. But when I checked supported models of original Audi RCA cable, I got this result:



And there is no A4 models. If A4 models does not support original audi RCA cable, I am afraid about chinese RCA cable. Probably there will be also no support.
So guys, please, is anybody here who has RCA cable with Audi A4 B8? I have MMI 3G High

Did you try to run spotify and waze at the same time to check if the phone is still charging ? I would like to be sure this box provides enough power before buying it,
or if i'll have the same issue as the mhl cable.

I have used amazon music and google maps at the same time and it charged. Not sure if waze and spotify will make a difference. I don't really wory much about battery life because I have a pretty short commute.

I just bought this box for my Audi a4 b8.5 2015, and everything is working ok, except i have a flickering issue on the bottom part of my MMI 3G+ screen, did you encounter this issue? I bought the AMI MMI 3RCA cable from Aliexpress, do you think this can be the cause of the flickering? Did anyone experience this problem?

Well never mind, i change the MMI Screen from PAL to NTSC and the flickering went way...

Just wondering what version of Android you have. I have made the box work with most iphones (iphone6,7,8) a few android phones (Galaxy S7, Galaxy Tab A), but not others (Another Galaxy S7 and Moto G6play).
Since it has worked with some samsung products, but not others, make me suspect it may be android issue. Maybe you can point me to the right direction.

I hooked up an HDMI to AV Converter to my MMI and then hooked up an Apple TV to the Converter. Using my iPhone as a source and connecting to the ATV peer to peer (Airplay).Works fine for maps and audio but can't seem to get any video from sources like YouTube TV or Netflix.
My other question is how do you control the Apple TV and change settings from this configuration? I can't seem to access it with the Remote app.

This looks like a great solution for me to use waze. My car is 2011 A5 with 3G High Navigation. Will the AMI to RCA cable work on this car? It seems that ETKA is not finding that cable for my car, but it does for B8.5.

Pretty sure you need 8.5 mmi for that cable to work.
