    Tubi Rumore questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a couple questions, which really could boil down to one universal "Yes" or "No" as to whether I should pull the trigger. I daily my RS4, mostly city driving unfortunately, but I do a lot of events and meets (and hopefully some HPDE's this season!) Of course, like every other car in my life. the mod bug bit me. I have a lead on a used Tubi Rumore setup with twin oval tips. Seller wants $1650 plus shipping. Is this a reasonable price for a used setup? They have 13000 miles on them and are fairly well caked in road grime. No apparent scrapes or dents though. Do the rumores break in like some fiberglass insulated mufflers do, or is this strictly a chamber design muffler thats going to stay the same sound from mile 0? Also, is it possible, or would it even make a difference in sound, to graft on the valved OEM RS4 tips? I figure if both outlets of the tubi have the same chamber design a valve would be pretty pointless. Let me know your general feelings on the livability versus opportunity here. My exhaust at this point is completely stock and untouched. It's just too quiet. If course, I'm coming from a catless 5 cylinder with a straight 3" ending in a pair of borla straight through mufflers, and that thing was way too loud on the highway. 3k rpm drone was unbearable.

I had the Tubi Rumore on my car. Loved the sound. As did most who heard it. It's hard to beat imo. A bit pricey for just cans but the resale value holds. IIRC I sold them for what I paid for them after putting a boat load of miles on them. They clean up pretty easily too with the right cleaning process and products.

I have the Rumore as well, its definitely LOUD. But the best sounding exhaust for this car IMO. I bought mine for 2k which seems to be about the going rate used so you definitely found a deal. I do get a considerable drone @60mph but that just seems to be the worst spot, all else its bearable. I think once I upgrade to an x-pipe this drone will also go away. I would say go for it! I posted a video below of my set-up. Good luck.

Cool! Thanks for the input, I had heard lots of people saying it was too loud for DD, but I figure on an otherwise stock system with a resonator and full cats, it would be manageable.

Is that with stock down pipes? Sounds nice and deep.

it's a good price, i have the "normal" version and would not let it go for under 2 grand!! it's one of a kind exhaust and rare just like the car it's on! ;) .. truly work of art. milage doesn't mean much because it's stainless and doesn't corrode. pair it with an h-pipe and you have a full cat-back..
i had mine on for 4 years, took it off to polish it up and it's like new after 50k miles on it.. this is how it looks after being polished and cleaned up.. tbh, mine started sounding even better the older it got. everyone that hears it tells me how incredible it sound and they've never heard anything else like it. even had a cop pull up on the side of me to tell me to rev it because it sounded so insane.

yeah, i used some mothers "billet" polish, and some nevr-dull wool for the initial cleaning. the billet is more expensive, but it's worth it. if your mufflers have a lot of crud use the normal mothers polish since it's coarser, and use the billet after for an even better polish/shine (billet is a finer). on the pipes i polished with some fine wet sandpaper (didn't wet it though). cut the sheet into 2 inch lengths, wrap it around the pipe to make a "U" and pull back and forth.. very easy this way.

Love the Mothers Billet... How did you black out the tips? ceramic coat or high temp paint? Looks awesome! (and easier to keep clean!)

Where are you going to source this satin high temp paint?

Well, I pulled the trigger! I was able to talk the dude down a bit and I am picking it up cash in hand tomorrow!!! I know I said I was keeping this stock.... but I have no willpower. Doesn't come with clamps though, and I know the common consensus here is to use the OEM clamps. Anyone have a part no. for them? Pics and vids, of course, will be produced before, during, after the install!

Just kidding about the pick up, that fell through. However, if anyone is planning on going to the Carlisle Import & Performance Nats next weekend, I am picking it up then, and bringing ramps , wrenches and a sawzall to install them at the show! Its gonna be a grand olde time!

Have you had much chance to daily drive the Rumore? What would a long distance road trip be like at a 70 mph cruise?

At 70 its perfectly livable, however at 60 she drones pretty bad. I am sure an x-pipe will fix this issue, I just need to get around to replacing the stock mid section.

Update: received the Rumore while at Carlisle Import and Performance Nationals this weekend, rolled the car up onto ramps and did the install right there on the show field. I have a friend compiling a before/during/after video, and amazingly the Rumore is louder than no rear mufflers at all! This is seriously an insane exhaust. Drove it 8 hours home last night, and the drive is exhausting, mostly because everything from WRX's to a Maserati wanted a highway pull... Really grabs attention! The tone and volume is amazingly dependent on engine load. Loafing around its actually managable, and the drone at 3000 RPM is nonexistent. This will put you at an indicated 80mph/GPS 75mph in 6th gear. You do hear exhaust noise, but you can hear someone speaking over it no problem. 1500 RPM is silent as well if you are coasting around city streets. I am going to feel it out, but I am very glad I left the middle resonator and cats in the vehicle. The funny part is every time you depart from a stop light, it sounds like the start of a DTM race. It definitely puts a smile on my face, but time will tell if it's "too much" for a daily. Videos to follow. The fitment and overall build quality is absolutely incredible. Under all the caked on mung was removed, it really does polish back up to a mirror, No oxidation whatsoever.

Oh, and the overrun sounds are hilarious. It sounds like thunder cracks. Its incredible.

    Looking forward to the videos!
I used to have a Boss Hoss (American motorcycle with Corvette LS3 V8), and found that by just feathering the throttle while coasting detonated [I]fantastic[I] thunderbolts on the overrun. Imagine Zeus, with flatulence.
    Sounds like a great investment!
