wheel axle grease on rear driver inside wheel

Hi, had this issue for a few years e and looked but couldn't see any obvious cause. I have some small globs of grease on the inside of the driver rear wheel. I noticed this a year or two ago when swapping summer/winter wheels. looked at cv boots but they seemed fine (to me). Also, I haven't noticed any kind of noise so I just let it be.. However, I just swapped to new AG m580 wheels and noticed again the wheel grease and it's only that one wheel. Now I want to fix it....Assuming it's a cv boot issue, is there a DIY for rear cv boot/axle? I can only find ones for the front. I believe ELSA mentions removing the rear spring.. Is that necessary with coilovers too? (I just had them installed to replace eibach springs/konis)

    Thanks

sometimes the clamp on the rear boot disappears and the oil comes out of the end of the boot closest to the diff. Im having that same issue right now. Grease everywhere but the boot is not torn.

Im going to pick up some axel grease and repack it and then install a new OEM 1 time use clamp on the end of the boot. Then clean up the mess in the fender. should be good to go after that.

hmm, you know, i vaguely remember noticing that i didn't see a clamp on one end of the boot. I thought it was strange but figured it must be by design because I couldn't fathom how it could just fall off. Only now have I started looking at repair manuals and noticing the clamps are on all ends.. that has to be it. but I'll still look at the cv boots while the wheel is off

    Thanks!

I too had grease on my rear wheels of my 06 from the CV boot small ends. Both sides were missing the clamps, but the boots looked to be original to the car. There is no inner clamp listed from Audi for the rear boots. So, try aftermarket, use safety wire, or a beefy zip tie.
