I need help hardwiring a radar detector...

I'm trying to hardwire my Escort radar detector to my 2017 A4, but I'm running into problems. I want to put my detector just above my dashboard at the far left of my windshield, so I can quickly remove it and stow it when I'm leaving the car.

First off, the fuse box is located under the left footrest. Not too difficult -- just pry out the round plug near the top of the footrest, and unscrew the screw and the cover comes off.

But the fuses have these sort of covers over them, so putting on an add-a-fuse devices won't work. I guess you could remove a cover and hope that the fuses don't fall out ... they probably wouldn't, but I don't like removing things that must've been put there for a reason.

Also, I can't find any ground screws in the vicinity. I looked -- ok, half-heartedly -- in the fuse box and the surrounding area, but didn't see any bare screws or other metal I could use as a ground.

Anyway, if anybody here can figure it out, I'd appreciate if you'd post a tutorial. Thanks!

On my current s5 I removed the pink holder plastic and never an issue with any falling fuse. As far as ground you have to look over the pedal. I'm sure you will find a screw to tight the connector to the ground.

I did the hardwiring on my last car by myself, but afraid to mess things up on the Audi, so paid a shop to do it. Around here, they charge between $50-$100 to do it.

You could always do the home link tap up near the mirror. This really is a very easy install. Don't worry about the fuse cover. Mine is sitting in my toolbox. I went to the fuse box with no issues. There has to be a screw somewhere down there.

I used the screw on by the left fuse box next to the steering wheel. I removed the bolt, sanded down the black paint on the frame, placed a washer - ground wire - another washer - original bolt back on.
I did have to extend the ground wire though bc it wasn't long enough.

Here's where I drew the power from. The 6th one down for the socket fuse.
