    RS4 Grill swap consensus

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I will be looking to swap my B8.5 Grill for a black RS4 grill this spring/summer and I have been doing forum searches but wanted to get something more up to date.

    1. Which grill do you guys prefer?
    2. Grill screen/ protection yes or no? If yes, what should I use (any DIY giudes are welcome)
    3. Does the Crash bar need to be painted black on the B8.5's?
    4. What is the process for moving over the badges/rings?

    Thank you!

Just a heads up I would not go with the ECS grill mine fit horrible around the edges (uneven gaps) and the rings were even worse (bowed out very badly). I had it on for 5 minutes before I put the oem grill back on.

    1) ECS Tuning or USP motorspots carry their version of the replica RS4 grills, you can buy either based on your needs.
    2) not really required, but will provide you some peace of mind. I used a gloss black mesh from Cargrills (search on amazon), its pretty sweet and easy to work with. It's held in place with some heavy duty zipties. You can use glue if you prefer.

    3) Yes, most definitely yes! else its going to stand out like a sore thumb. I suggest black plastidip, as its reversible if that is something you worry about.
    4) Just buy a new badge on ebay instead of using the one from your original grille. Rings are easy to swap, just some clips. Be careful with the clips, they tend to break.

I got mine from ECS Tuning. It's fine. Better than the ebay one I had previously (someone backed into me at the airport and cracked it so I replaced with ECS)
I did not use a mesh screen behind it. But I perhaps should have... if you have the time do it.
Yes paint the bar. Looks terrible otherwise. Plastidip works best.
I used the original S4 badge from my old grill on the new one. Epoxy has held it in place for over a year. If you epoxy it, do it BEFORE you put the grill on. This way you can lay it flat while it dries...

Vendor was dubstopimports but he currently does not have this grid for sale anymore.

    1) they have chrome trim and black trim. I went with chrome to match the rest of my trim.
    https://www.ecstuning.com/ES3005993/

    2) I gave this some thought but then decided to go without it. I think most people dont get protection mesh and I haven't read people having issues. Unless anyone can provide links?

    3) Yes. I am having my crash bar and intercooler painted matte black. I think matte black will help the gloss black grill pop more and hide internals better since matte doesn't reflect as much light.

    4) The grill linked above comes with rings. And I bought genuine front S4 emblem/badge to mount on the new grill.

You literally already said this sentiment in the thread. We get that you're not happy, but an overwhelming majority of people are.

Relax dude just making sure he's aware before he makes the purchase. Wish someone gave me that advise before I bought mine. If your happy with it that's cool.

    1. I have the ECS grille. Perfect fitment. However, the ring holder does protrude quite a bit vs OEM RS grille.
    2. No, I do not have a grille screen.
    3. No, but it'll look ugly. It is highly recommended to paint it black. easiest way is to plastidip while your bumper is off.
    4. For the rings I used the one from my stock grille. It is easy to pop it out, just do it carefully. For the S4 badge I bought one from eBay, then epoxy glued it on the grille.

What size did you order for the mesh? I see a 16 by 48 but that doesn't seem big enough. Did you order two?

I had the ECS grill on my B8.5 A4 S-line and it fit fine, but I hated how the ring holder protruded with a big plastic bracket. Always made it look cheap to me. I have the black optics grill on my S4 and couldn't be happier with that. Blows away the mesh grill, just my opinion...

There are newer ECS grilles with the ring holder integrated and small mesh inside. And, of course, the usual frame trim variants.

no I got the 16" x 48" and it was enough to cover all of the radiator and about half of the intercooler. But I had enough material left over to cover the rest of the intercooler if I wanted, but I was too lazy since the intercooler had the OEM mesh on it already.

ECS Grille here...no complaints at all. A screen protector will provide you with a piece of mind, but I am not running one even with my upgraded APR CPS system...maybe I should. Paint the crash bar unless you want an eye sore from that ugly metal thing! I used plastidip and it's worked perfectly fine...no chips or anything. Granted, I don't drive my car in snow with salt trucks or follow too close behind people (Surprising from an Audi driver lol)
