2013 S4 and MMI connect features

I have a 2013 s4 and just downloaded MMi connect. Is there any documentation on which features are available for the 2013? Was hoping to get remote control lock/unlock.

The B8 and B8.5's don't have remote lock/unlock with the app.

Once you add your VIN to the app it will configure itself for your car and only show the features that are supported for your model. Those features are Internet radio streaming and online destinations as well as remembering where you parked your car. Remote lock/unlock is only supported by the latest generation MMI in the new 2017 A4 and Q7.

The reviews for this app are terrible...

So what is that we can do with this?

The reviews are terrible for a couple of reasons. Number 1, the app doesn't have a lot of functionality with the older generation cars, but that's not a limitation of the app, but a limitation of the MMI in those models. Number 2, the development team behind the app sucks. They've broken the app several times with an update that was to fix one thing, just to break another thing. The current iOS version is in ok shape, but I think the Android version still has issues.

The main thing the app does is it allows you to send navigation destinations to the car, so you don't have to enter them. You just pull them up on the MMI and you are on your way. You can search for destinations on Google Maps through the app and then send them to the car, or you can pull up an appointment from your calendar and send the location to the car, or you can pull up a contact from your phone and send their address to the car. You can also manage the sent destinations from the phone as in deleting them when you no longer need them. This is the feature I use regularly, in particular sending calendar appointment locations to the car to navigate to them.

The second function is streaming Internet radio stations over the car's Wifi network to the MMI. I never use this function, though.

On the 2017 A4 and Q7, the app has additional features. Such as the ability to check if you locked your car and remotely lock/unlock it. I don't know what other features it has on these newer generation cars, but I mainly got the app for the online destinations feature.

The only thing is that the 'send to car' functionality is also available in native Google Maps on a computer. I regularly send addresses and things to my car from the site, and I haven't ever found a need to do it with my phone. If I'm in the car, why not just enter it there? Just hit the button and speak the address, and the car does its thing.

In my mind, it's not worth using their horrible app to do it that way.

THAT SAID: If I could look something up on my phone, hit 'Send to Car', and it just started navigating...that would be worth it. Right now, I still have to go to Online Destinations and pick it from the list, which is ridiculous. Give me the ability to find something on my phone, hit "Navigate", and it just starts navigating in the car, and I'm completely sold on the idea.

I do use Google Maps, but I'm not always in front of a computer and I manage many places I need to go on my calendars, so the calendar integration is really what attracts me to the app. It's also much quicker to delete old destinations using the app as opposed to the clunky myAudi website. While the app has had bugs over time, it has never really blocked me from sending destinations. Entering an address via voice is slow. First you have to wait for it to become available, then I have to speak the address and if I don't have it memorized, I have to read it from somewhere. I typically start driving in the general direction and then with a few clicks while driving, pull up the destination I've sent previously. That takes very little concentration and distraction. Also while voice recognition is pretty good, the hit rate is still not a 100%. Part of that could be because I'm not a native English speaker and don't always know how to pronounce some of the funny street names we have around here and I'm not even sure the MMI would get it right if I did pronounce them correctly. Not even long time residents correctly pronounce street names around here.

Anyway, one time or the other I've used all the ways the MMI offers to enter destinations and using the app has proven to be the most efficient way. I had a Windows Phone for a while, so I was using all the other ways you describe quit frequently, but one of the reasons to switch back to an iPhone was so that I could use the app.

I'm surprised Audi cant do all of these (send navigation, remote lock/unlock, car location, etc.) even with the 2012-13. GM has been doing all of these with OnStar for a few years and I'd expect Audi to be a bit more advanced than GM. Frustrating I can't do this with my 13.
