Question shaking side to side while idleing.

my 06 a4 2.0t Avant started shaking from side to side this morning after driving for 5 minutes. it only occurs while idling and if I give it just a little bit of gas it stops. I popped the hood and the motor is definitely moving more than it should.

any ideas on what would cause this?

Do you have a check engine light? Also, you may want to inspect those motor mounts amigo.

Yea I was thinking it could be the motor mounts but wanted to get opinions. I'll check for the "syrup" and no to the check engine light miA4.

Typically if the motor is rocking that much you have a miss fire happening. You'd definitely see a check engine light if its persistent or even a flashing check engine light if its really bad.

Worn motor mounts will definitely exaggerate the rocking.

I'd start with an ECU scan and see what codes are getting logged.

I thought possible misfire as well but still no check engine after driving 30 miles (home to work). Do you know if the torque app will find anything if the CEL isn't on?

I'm not too familiar with the Torque app, but it does mention it will detect DTC's, not sure if that includes internal codes as well but it may.

Got this recently, very similar symptoms... Changed the cam position sensor and did a battery pull. Code never came back. Hope this helps.

It was the Cam Position Sensor, my clip is broken on it, and what I thought was weird is that I went out there and tried that sensor and it didn't work but when I went back out to try it, it started right away and was working correctly.
