    Broken Cam follower

Hey guys I'm new here lemme know if this is in the wrong section.

Bought a 2006 Audi A4 with 77,000 miles on it, Been reading about all the problems with the cam follower so I ordered the part and finally made enough time to get at it today.

The cam follower had a large hole punched through and the nipple of the HPFP was worn pretty badly, I replaced it with a new follower and O-ring and was wondering if I should try and go after the Audi dealer for the extended warranty even know I'm slightly above the 10 years.

I've never owned an Audi before and don't know exactly how the car should drive, it seems to drive fine and even has slightly more torque since I've replaced the follower.

Other then the ticking time bomb of that little piece floating around is there anything else to worry about?

You'll need a new HPFP as the worn one will eat through the follower.

This. If it was that bad, it also wore down the cam lobe and that should be replaced. You could call Audi of America to see what they'll do. Seeing as you're over the 10 years, the dealership probably won't do anything without pressure from AoA (unless they're a REALLY customer-oriented one).

The key is really the service manager at the dealership I find in most cases . he can go to bat with you or he wont. he has influence so if he can convince AoA not to piss you off you have a chance. IF you are just " going to go after them" I cant see it working out. tread carefully.

a pic of the cam lobes would be interesting. I have to do mine on Saturday . Me and my buddy just bought A4 both with 250,000km and both of us are expecting the worst.

It might be worth it to put your old follower back in and drive it down to the dealer to pay to have it inspected. I don't see them giving much good will repair without this happening. I read all the time about them not even helping people that are in warranty unless they do this.

Thanks for the replies, I've reached out to the service manager at my local audi dealer (Audi of Bellevue in Washington) unfortunately I got the machine... I'll keep trying him or maybe I'll go directly to AoA first.

The car has a ton more power now... it's unfortunate that the previous owner didn't care for it. Already replaced coils and spark plugs, n80, thermostat and now the cam follower ><

Skopa I'm in the same boat, just bought the car and am baselining it.

Plugs, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, pcv, n80 valve, fuel.filter, thermostat, cts, cam follower on the weekend . I'm not expecting anything different than yours.

Thanks Jake, if the service Manager doesn't come through then I'll probably go that route and have a 3rd party put it in.

You're in more then I am... think I'm going to replace all fluids and filters this weekend or next aswell.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a thousand dollar fix, wish you luck on your follower ;)
