Smog test obdi says cats not ready?

I replaced my stock air box and cat for my smog test drove it a few miles around he house and then about 16 to the smog check shop. No cells no codes car runs perfect but when the tech was doing his pre inspection his reader said the cat was not ready. He advised me to drive it and let the car finish doing its diagnostic tests. I smogged my car before without this issue I literally changed the cat and air box back and went to the shop to get it smogged without an issue. I have searched for steps to get the cat ready most say just drive it a few hundred miles. I put about 100 on it today and still no codes or lights but the cat is not ready. Why is my car doing this now? I'm going to drive it like it is for a week and try again. I have seen other videos and forums saying cold start it drive at 55-65 for 5 min with the defroster on then coast to a stop then drive 25-35 for 5 min and a bunch of other steps. What's the deal is this a common occurance or am I special? Has anyone had this issue and what did you do to fix it other than just drive a few hundred miles?

Do you have vcds? You can force a readiness check with it.

I had the same issue when I first had to have the car smogged. As p0isin mentioned you can force readiness with a vagcom. Unfortunately, since I have a tune I had to get the stock file put back on and then force readiness(even though I could switch to stock with APR). So if you're tuned, you MAY need to have the stock file put on. If not just drive the it for a week and don't clear any CELs which will clear readiness and it should set everything. Let me check my Bentley to see if it has the driving sequence B72011 mentioned.

Wow, so the APR tune blocks the use of that vcds feature? Almost sounds like a bug they never got around to fixing!

I'm APR 2+ but I have switched everything out to smog it before with no issues. I have searched the Internet B72011 for the cat cycle but it's the cold start drive 55-65 mph for 5 min the drive 25-35mph in stop and go traffic with like 11 other steps. The easiest is to just drive the car for a week which I will do I was just wondering what other option or a specific miles I should drive. I have a V checker + but I'm not sure I can force anything with it like the Vagcom. On the upside the car runs perfect and should pass easy once my cat gets its shit together haha. Oh and driving stock sucks balls with 8 psi boost max vs my 18-20.........😒

APR doesn't block vcds from reading through obd-ii. Their tunes code out the CEL for catalyst efficiency but the sensor itself will read 'not ready' which will fail a state that has emissions checks and can't be read by vcds.

Other tunes may keep the catalyst efficiency readiness check but will change the tolerance on the parameters very wide so a test pipe won't trigger a CEL but you'll still be able to pass a readiness check.

I will smog it Friday or next Monday when I have time. I have smogged it before with the cat stock air box and stock tune file without issues. I don't want to try and smog with the tune due to it needed a downpipe to work properly.

I am having the same issue, reset DTC but none to start with, cant get Cat to reach readiness. I suspect apr stage 2+ software as well. i have read other forums with this issue and had to reflash back to a stock file to pass smog. Hoping to hear different way to pass.

APR Stage 2 prevents the catalyst readiness from running to prevent the CEL.
