So, got the Vortseiner wheels, got the Corsa exhaust, got the windows tinted...

    Have two options...

    1) Buy an ARP or similar intake and H&R OE Springs.

    2) Buy ST coilovers.

    Begin.

All knowing AZ S5 folks... What would you do?

I went with OE H&R ONLY becaUse they were essentially free from a friend who switched to coils to go a bit lower.

The 1" is perfect for me, I just like to get rid of wheel gap, so I would have the coils probably at their highest setting. So that's kind of a waste at the moment technically speaking comparing $1200 vs free.

Only thing that worries me is how long my stock struts & such will last as I have 70k on my 2010 S5. I would probably switch to H&R/ST coils or such next summer IF I still have the car & don't upgrade to a newer model. Unless everything is still good, I'll keep trucking. Rides great at the moment, no problems everything is tight.

Isn't ST running a special right now for like $699 for a set?

I'd look at the classifieds and see if you can't a decently priced Coilover set.

There was a pair of H&R for $850, they are normally like $1200. They only had like a few thousand miles on them.

How are your struts and such holding up? I see you have a B8 S5 like me. How many miles have you ran with the OE springs on yours? 1" shouldn't be too much, but i would assume they may wear out a little faster compared to having the stock hardware on.

So far I've had them for 25k miles... the car had 25k miles when they were installed. So far so good *knock on wood...I've been told they would wear down the stock struts but with 25k miles on originally I wasn't too worried. However, I'll eventually upgrade to the Bilstein struts in order to keep my dynamic ride options...

Ahhhh i see, makes sense since you would loose the dynamic driving options if you switched to coils. That could be a option for me as well since i got the springs for free.

Having had springs and now coils, I would highly recommend coils over springs. Much better ride.

Probably true no doubt, but you have $2200 coils, do you think it would be the same if you had H&R coils for $1000 cheaper? I would be in the $1,000 bracket for coils. I don't track my car or anything crazy just really daily it.

I've had my H&R Street Performance coils for over 25k and would definitely buy them again. Suspension ride is subjective of course, but while they are a bit firm - I don't feel they are uncomfortable on long trips. Others may disagree and prefer the dampening route - just my 2 cents.

Its not the firm ride that bothers me at all. Its when cars like a corvette for example become rattle traps and interior bits start rattling etc. Audi obviously does a good job keep the noise down inside the car & the interior is built well.

I'm curious how ST stacks up against the H&R coils. The ST for about $650 right now with mail & rebate seems like a good deal if their decent and someone's on a tighter budget.

Fair question, and having not run any other coils on my S5 I couldn't objectively say. Daily driving is where I appreciate the coils the most. Much better ride then the springs. Springs felt harsh, the coil overs are smooth but controlled.

This is my question. Getting the STs at $650 or spending $200 on springs and $400 on an intake... Same or similar costs and instal is going to cost exactly the same as the coilovers will take the same amount of time as the springs... I just want to get everything I can for similar money. I won't track the car and the OE drop is what I would do for winters here. And winters probably will kill a set of coil overs... rust and such...

STs should be fine. Although in areas where you get snow you might want to coat them to prevent it from rusting, since the STs aren't stainless steel. They are made by KW, so they're pretty good quality coilovers.

I am with ya bud, i drive my car year round even in the PA winters. The 1" drop is perfect for me just getting rid of that wheel gap and the car handles better as well around turns. The ST ones are a good deal at the moment, just depends how they are on the S5.

My son's Subaru with coil overs are easy to remove and replace for winter. Not so much on the S5... I'd do it if it were easier, but I think it is a full day job and honestly, I don't know if it is an easy job in a garage... I also know that paying $400-$500 each time I swap ain't in the cards either...

The coils will probably rust also. Had another car where the Eibach springs rusted after two seasons. Sucks...

I first have h&r spring but after a year can't live with the bouncy ride. Then switch to h&r coilover, after a winter, that shit rusted to death and h&r not response to my warranty request and no one willing to rebuild it. Now I am with PSS10, never been that satisfy! Before I have the PSS10, my S5 never able to handle close to my RWD 335 but after the PSS10, it handle better the 335 now! KW HAS is like 7-800. much more worth it than 700 ST coils imo

    https://www.stillen.com/kw-suspensio...-25310075.html

731 here, rather shelve out the extra <100 vs ST coils. plus mops should have a better price than that

Interesting. I got a set of OE free from a friend who went with coils to go lower. I felt it was a no brainer to run them for a bit & switch to coils down the line OR upgrade the the shocks with Konis.

Koni has a same right now for $550 for them. I only want the 1" drop to rid of wheel gap etc. Not looking to heavily lower it, it's a DD.

better get the shock as well now or go for a quality coilover. I waste 1k on labour for switching out suspension in 2 years!

True but labor would be free via his garage & power tools ;) . Another reason I said wth let's put them on for now lol.
