    Where is the timing mark on the 4.2 a6

    Can someone show me how to set the timing on the crank? I am looking but don't see where the mark is for it.

    looking for the timing mark on the crank can any one help me out asap please google is not coming through as it always do

    On a 4.2 you need the proper tools to time it. A cam sprocket lock bar and crank lock pin. I have these if you want to borrow them. I work in Seattle around Univ of WA. The crank doesn't have a timing mark to reference because the procedure involves loosening the cam sprockets to time it back up. The only thing that keeps the crank timed up will be the lock pin. You could always make your own ref mark but the tools are very handy.

    i have the crank locking pin and the cam tool as well but i did not lock the crank into place before i started to tear it apart but i have the tool and just need to know were to lock the crank in order to do the timing. (so i guess my question is in what position do i lock the crank?0

    thanks i am going to go and check this out hopefully i have the marks on the crank case

    There is a small indentation on the crank pulley on the edge like the pick above. It might be hard to see because it's not white, once you find it paint the mark with white out it'll help. The other mark is on the plastic cover behind the crank pulley.

    There are marks, but they are on the balancer/ large crankshaft pulley and the lower timing cover. And you have to remove those two things to get to the timing belt, so they're useful for initial timing checking and when you're putting it back together for a final check. But once everything is apart they're kind of stupid.
    I don't have a bar anymore; and typically don't even bother to borrow one anymore. I vandalize the anything that moves with white paint marks and make sure it all lines up EXACTLY, and never had a problem.

    Is the timing belt still on? You should be able to lock your cam bar in place then the crank is already set at TDC. If you've already pulled the belt off . . . . well that's a little harder to answer. I guess you'll have to assume you're at TDC after pulling off all the other timing components and have a friend gently rock the cam sprocket back and forth until the lock pin gets seated?

    Or are you asking where the lock pin is located.

    i finnally figured it out... but i was aking where is the timing marks for the TDC. the timing belt was off but after some research i finically got it.
