Looking to get some new wheels for my 04 allroad. Debating between 18" with spacers, or 19"s with no spacers. could anyone tell me about their situation? I'm not sure if the speedometer will be messed up going with 19's. Thanks!

BTW, I', looking at the hartmann replica wheels.

I think 19" wheels are the sweet spot for the allroad, unless you're going for a rugged look. Speedometer is not an issue- you can still keep a similar rolling diameter to stock with a larger diameter wheel. Spacers have to do with the offset of the wheel and not the diameter.

Here's a nice set of RS4 wheels in 19" to give you an idea

Thanks Hayden! Yeah I guess I sounded misleading by saying spacers. What I meant was if I go with 18" hartmann's I'll need 15mm spacers to equal off the offset, whereas the 19" come with the proper offset, so no need for spacers. Your ride looks great btw! Exactly the look I'm going for! Appreciate the reply!

I've got 19 x 8.5/9.5 and it's ok but never really looked big enough to me! I'm in the process of going to 20" now.
Currently running 245/40/19 which gives the same tyre height and circumference as the original 225/55/17's that came on it.

I would only consider 19" if I drive in Utopian perfect place with no potholes. So far B6 S4 Avus wheels with 235/45/18 tires worked very well for me will 30mm hub adapters (similar to spacers, but bolted to hub, then studs to wheels). Also very much against using "staggered" setup with wider rear or thicker adapters on the rear on any quattro audi. If anything, it just makes understeer worse.

19's are perfect. They have more then enough sidewall for most roads. 255/40/19 is perfect size if you don't want fitment issues.

Here is mine on 275/35/19's and 19x10 wheels.

19 with 255/40-19 tires is the magic formula. Has plenty of side wall meat for holes and definitely looks better than stock stuff. Speedo will be off by few %, not a big deal at all.

I've run 19s and 20s with many various widths and tire sizes. 20s do ride a bit harsh and I got a pinch flat due to some soft sidewall and narrow treadwidth michelins. I got some stiffer sidewall and wider treadwidth (same aspect ratio) and it was markedly improved. But not supple.

19s are great for the allroad. So much room for beefy tires and enough wheel to look great. I've been on 19s for about 4-5 years, had one bend but didn't affect performance. And I've hit some crazy potholes.

When I was on 20s. Looked nice but wasn't the direction I wanted to take my car:

I have a 2004 AR with 2013 Allroad wheels and tires (245/45/18) and a 2002 with 19x8.5 Harmanns with 255/40/19's. It's not an apples to apples comparison with different brand tires on each, but the AR with the 18's rides smoother, quieter, tracks better without needing as many steering corrections, and is overall much nicer to drive. I swapped the wheels/tires between the two cars just to make sure there wasn't another factor like alignment or worn suspension components and found that the characteristics followed the wheels/tires.

    19's for looks

    18's for driving
