    Building 06 A4

I currently have run into the awesomeness of previous owners not maintaining their vehicles. I bought my 06 A4 Quattro Tipronic 2.0t last July, made it though the winter and was planing to do alot of run of the mill maintenance on it this summer when I could use my motorcycle as my means to get back and forth to work. Turns out my plans were spoiled when leaving my house a couple weeks ago. Pulled off a stop sign to a loud thud and jolt, car died and had to push it 3 blocks back to my house ( work out for the month lol). Started think timing belt since that was my plan as soon as Iowa winter ended. Pulled the inspection cover to find the timing belt to be perfectly fine. Car wouldn't start and acted as though no compression. Got it into the garage and started pulling HPFP, found the culprit to be the cam follower. Yet another part that was going to be replaced. This car has over 130k and i figured I would just do a full rebuild and upgrade everything for the most part. Since I now have smashed intake valves on cylinder 2, I will rebuild the top end and might as well replace with upgraded parts and once I have the head off I'm figuring I'll probably just pull the motor and finish by changing out the bottom end as well. Looking for ideas as well as sources for good parts. I need to know also if I can get someone to tell me if the turbo I have is stock? I have looked around and found that factory my car should push between 7 - 15 psi and i have an OBD link connected and boost reading from the dashboard display on there reads peaks almost 30psi and tapering down to about 24psi. Is this a misread from the ecu??? I don't know how to tell if it has a tune.. Any and all help is welcome. I plan to be building this project over the course of the year and it goes as far as replacing mount and full suspension. I am going for a moderate amount of power this is still an Automatic transmission. I'm not sure how much power the Tiptronic can take but I'm planning to build the internals on the motor for anything..

    Yikes.

So you took the whole car apart without knowing why it wasn't starting? Did you pull any codes from it first? I doubt the cam follower was the culprit of it dying and not restarting.

As for the turbo, I would look at the part number on the turbo first, and that will tell you. If everything else is stock, I would expect the turbo to be stock as well. Most people don't ONLY upgrade their turbo. 30PSI peek is high for our cars. I would look and see if the wastegate had been modded (they may have lengthened it too much).

I would get the car back running and do some of those maintenance things you mentioned before worrying about upgrading. There's tons of info already on here to help with that.

boost from the ECU reads absolute pressure in mBar. Need to subtract atmospheric to get boost pressure.

    2026 mBar - 1015 mBar (atmospheric) = 1010 mBar = 14.6 PSI boost

I would say if you are sure the timing belt is fine but you smashed vales your problem is in the head ( ie tensioner failure etc. ) ,I am sure there are a lot of people driving around with the cam follower worn right though that don't even realize it. I doubt this is the direct case of your issue .. although may be indirect if pieces of cam follower are floating through your engine blocking oil passages and the like.

take a look at google images and you should be to tell if you have a stock turbo or not....or just post a pic and we will tell you haha

obv 30 psi way too high for a stock KO3 turbo but the N75 boost solenoid and or wastegate vacuum lines maybe torn or disconnected

what device are you connecting to the OBDII port to read the psi?

Where in Iowa do you live? I too live in Iowa and have been looking for people who live here as well lol. Maybe if you're close I could offer some help if you need, especially with the general maintenance since I just did all of that to mine within the past few months.

I live in Mason City, IA. As for those who say I'm not sure as to what's wrong. I know that the timing is toast along with Intake valve on cylinder 2. The purpose for rebuild is that the cam follower broke, the piece that came off made its way into the timing chain on the back side of the head that matches the intake to the exhaust cam. It skipped the timing chain and all the intake valve made contact with pistons, only 2 seriously damaged were cylinder 2. But the all the pistons have markings showing that they where hit. I already know the cause of damage. I an now workin on whether it's worth my time to put $10k into this motor and upgrade turbo. I get my hands on a 4.2 with harness. This might be my new route. Only issue I have there is knowing if the tiptronic is the same from the 2.0t to the 4.2. If not I'll have to get a Trans as well.
