    Tuners in GTA

Might any of you be able to recommend a good tuning shop in the GTA?
I'm looking to go stage 2 as the next project on our SQ5 - APR or GIAC, not sure yet. Pfaff Tuning is selling GIAC and Unitronic at the moment.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated... especially if you also know of a 'tune-friendly' Audi dealer.

    Cheers.

Great information. I'll start making some calls, but feel free to chime in with any personal experiences. I'm in Etobicoke. If you have a tuned 3.0T, I'd love to meet up and just sit in your car for,... oh lets say... about 4.x seconds.

Sorry, no such tuned friendly dealers out there. If you go into service and dealer hooks up your car for diagnostic, they can flag your vin # and void your engine & tranny warranty. This has been discussed years ago when Audi US initiated this matter.

What he said. No such thing as a " Tune Friendly" dealer. Even PFAFF. They make you sign a waiver first.

A lot of people under warranty are installing the Chipwerke piggy back unit as it is easily removed before servicing at the dealer.
Don't know a lot about it but if you search the B8 S4 forum you will find plenty of information.
Some people prefer it to GIAC or APR?

I wouldn't go with Unitronic though.

Can you share why not Unitronic? I am looking to do a stage 2 setup on my car. I spoke to them on the phone and they sounded good to me. Price is $1650 CDN + pulley install.

If you had something like the APR EMCS, can't you just switch back to "Stock" before going in for any service or would the dealer still be able to tell that the car had been flashed at some point? I don't really know, just curious to be honest.

Do you have 6 spd or DSG?

Unitronic has been promising a DSG flash for years and doesn't look to be coming out with one.
GIAC highly recommends it when you go Stage 2 and so does APR.

To be honest I would look at EPL or GIAC way way before Unitronic.
Do some long searches on the B8 S4 section and you will see Unitronic is not very popular for several reasons...
Don't just look at the cost.

My two cents. Piggyback may be undetectable now, but who knows what the future holds. As a friend tells me (a relative of his works for Audi AG), it's a cat and mouse game between chip tuning and Audi. You can thank the ones in the past that blew their transmission because of the increased torque that the transmission couldn't handle and people making warranty claims. If you want to play you gotta pay as they say.

Don't tunes from Uni and REVO get wiped if you disconnect the battery?

APR stays even after a disconnect....Not sure about GIAC.

+1 for the garage. I highly recommend them. They know their stuff and HONEST. Even if it's a bit of a drive, it's worth it.

Not sure who comes up with these things but tunes are not written in volatile memory. Nothing gets wiped if power is disconnected.

After bad experience with unitronic and my brother in laws bad experience with apr I'd avoid both of those at all costs. Keep your money in your pocket if those are either of your selections. Seriously avoid. id rather buy you a case of beer then see you deal with unitronic or apr customer service (there's no service provided your just someone who forks over money gets a shitty tune then cannot get any help when your car starts throwing codes because there tune). Incorrect timing adjustments (5 degrees at idle), improper boost files or curves in the tune, improper injectors selected in tune, miss coded files, then customer service which will tell you "it's hardware not software". Then you spend $1000 replacing parts only to have the same problems. Which after fighting tooth and nail the finally admit "are tune must not be for your car" and you get no money back, 1 shittier revision to the crap tune u bought and then up shits creek with not even a sticker for your overly priced unitronic tune.

I have tuned 2 AUDI's this far with Jim and he is amazing. The first was a Highly Modified TT with Stage 3 tune which was like a go cart after he finished. Secondly was an A4 with a simple Stage 1 in it. Now my Q7 is going in for a tweak. Jim will take whatever time needed to get the tune to run in your car. His knowledge of the computers is second to none.

    Tel him Dom Sent you

Thanks for the information. still haven't decided which route to go re APR, GIAC, EPL, etc. I'd love to find someone very local. Probably not pfaff. JPR and Mittler aren't too far.

What shop does Dom work out of?

i will chime back in once i get some more info.. i just picked up my first euro.. 2014 A4 SLine it was a salvage title. so trying to fit some mods in the rebuild

I have Unitonic Stage + Pulley from SEM Motorsports. I love it. Car pulls hard, and its really everything you can expect from a tune. You will find horror stories about every tune, so read the reviews but take everything with a grain of salt. More people complain then they do compliment about things on the internet. When I was shopping around I read a ton a horror stories about APR and their customer service, constant CEL's, needing updates etc etc, and GIAC doesn't even make a tune for the SQ from the last time I checked. If they do I wouldn't know as my 5 emails regarding a tune were never answered, as well at Marks from Independent Tuning who was also trying to get some clarification.

Oh and the tune being wiped when disconnecting the battery, has got to be the dumbest thing I've read to date.

I'm glad to hear you're a happy customer with the Unitronic tune. Did you mean stage 1 or 2?

SEM is probably the other shop that seems relatively close to me.

So would you definitely recommend unitronic to apr? or GIAC? and is the power gain comparable to each stage 2 with a pulley upgrade? thank you in advance.

I wouldn't recommend one or the other. It's all personal preference as well as how close the nearest tuner is. From what I read, and this is my own opinion is that all the Stage 2+ Pulley upgrades for the SQ5 are basically the same; results wise. There is only so much you can push these cars and anyone claiming their tune is SO MUCH powerful then the rest, I would be hesitant.

Anyways, like I said. I like Unitronic. Nice people, the tuner SEM was great so that's who I went with. GIAC was MIA when I was shopping and APR I've read stories about CEL's (fixable, but a hassle to go and start getting a reflash)

Good luck, you'll enjoy and of the 3 tunes.
