sound normal to me, coming from the high pressure pump connected to the camshaft for the direct injection (FSI). My jetta 2.0t, my tiguan 2.0t and my s4 have the same sound.

The sound does get a little big more pronounce when the oil level is low, so topping it off reduces the sound a little bit.

Sounds normal to me. Maybe a little louder due to milage. But I wouldn't stress about it. What made you look for noise?

This is new and you hear it even inside the car . The oil was changed by someone else and the noise came afterward. The noise is on the back of the motor but hard to pinpoint from where. Not the HPFP or vacuum pump. I pulled the rear chain covers and found that the small guide rail at the top on the drivers side was cracked and hanging by a thread. So there are some pieces of it found in the pan. This is not the issue where the tensioners rattle on start up and goes away, this continues. I've read a tsb about a superseded tensioner with a stronger spring in the ram. I guess I will try that.

what oil was used, if sounds just came after oil change, seems oil is culprit!
