AEB Head to 06A Block - Bolting Options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I ended up having a cracked AMB head and was able to locate and buy an AEB head in excellent condition. I know there are a bunch of things that need to be moved over from the AMB head to the AEB. That stuff I am good to go on! This question goes out to those who have done this AEB head option on their 06A block:

What are the head bolt options for bolting the AEB to the 06A block? What are you guys using?

I know ARP sells a kit on 034 but its rather pricey and it requires drilling and tapping the block. I am not opposed to this option but I would like to know what options are out there.

Head bolts/studs are short block specific, and not cylinder head specific. And you were better off sourcing an awm cylinder head to keep velocity. No gains will be seen with the aeb head till over the 400whp mark. Maybe why Audi engineers made the ports smaller (both intake and exhaust) on the 06a vs 058.

I don't disagree with you Seerlah about the gains or sourcing an AWM or AMB head. I have made many attempts to locate good AMB or AWM head but people either want an arm and a leg for their head or people don't respond. Despite that the car will eventually be going over 400whp. The bottom end of the engine is now built for the power. Plans for a big turbo are in the near future, I just need to get this car back together.

If you have a built bottom end, I take it you want to do an upgraded valvetrain later on. And if so, either go with ARP studs or bolts (06A specific). Pays for itself after the first pull, if you shop thrifty. Picked up mine used for $100 shipped, basically brand new (guy ordered wrong ones and figured dump them vs paying restocking fee).

Head bolts stick with the block, i.e. you will be using stock AMB head bolts, or whatever your flavor of aftermarket is. Just be sure they are 10mm and you will be good to go. Just know that running SAI is not an option, but I do not believe that is a problem since you live in the godforsaken land known as Sconsin. Only thing you guys can do right is beer and cheese. Absolutely admirable things to get right, no doubt. But I digress....

I have used and recommend ARP reusable head bolts. Larger clamping pressure on head gasket and more reliable gasket seal compared to stock head bolts.
