hey guys,
i might be late to the party with this one but its a shot in the dark so here it goes. i plan on relocating my aux water pump from the heat chamber of the valley of the engine to over near the alternator. might as well do this when i do the timing belt since im already gonna need to do a F-ton of work anyway. however, i have a spare 2.8L 30V engine from a passat sitting around. i got to thinking a little bit. the coolant bypass pipes in the valley of the 2.7 obviously are constructed in such a way to incorperate the aux water pump there. the 2.8 bypass pipe setup are literally just straight pipes with coolant flowing through them since their aux water pump is near the alternator. its a little extra work up front, but may pay off in the end im sure... what if i was to take the bypass pipes from the 2.8 and put them on the 2.7? and take the front coolant pipe/hose setup from the 2.8 and put that on the 2.7? basically swapping those parts relocates the aux water pump with all OEM parts, just from different models. the 2.7 and 2.8 engines are very similar in general design and im confident this could work. after all, the pump is doing the same thing in both engines. the seal kit for the bypass pipes is very cheap off ECS and i might as well put the spare engine i have laying around to some sort of use. thoughts? opinions? concerns? id love to hear from the guys that have done this relocation. thanks
