:: ECS Tuning :: ECS Performance Baffled Oil Catch Can System | B8 A5 2.0T

An unfortunate consequence of the modern closed PCV/Breather system is the unintended ingestion of oil vapor and carbon into the intake tract, lowering the octane rating and leaving harmful deposits on a vehicle's intake valves and ports that result in decreased power.

Engineered in-house and manufactured here in the USA, the ECS Baffled Oil Catch Can utilizes a highly efficient 4-chamber oil separator, decreasing oil ingestion and maintaining engine power output.

The innovative design also catches as much blow-by gas as possible, bringing carbon buildup to an absolute minimum.

    Nice Catch!

No, you can leave it installed it's just recommended to empty it every few days to avoid anything freezing up.

    Hi Jason,

having just purchased a 2011 A5 2.0T TSi, this product has been on my radar.
my vehicle is a 'daily driver' & i live in Western PA.
given our annual climate, cold weather (<30 degrees F) is a fact of life 4 months of each year.

per the ECS Audi B8 2.0T Performance Baffled Oil Catch Can Installation Instructions on pg 35:

When the temperature drops below freezing, we recommend reinstalling your original crank vent system components to prevent freeze
up of the crank vent system and damage to engine seals.

your advice to djlegendpa appears to conflict with these instructions.
given my location, climate & driving habits, do you make the same recommendation for my application?

It is recommended to be removed, but as long as you emtpy the catch can regularly you should have no issues with freezing of the crank vent system. The catch can traps the moisture where it would normally be recirculated back into your engine. So if you leave it installed and do not empty the catch can the moisture can freeze, which would cause crank vent freeze up and damage to the seals.
