    Relay question and logic check

Ok, I now have an issue with the car. The ABS, EPC and traction control light come on after a short while having discharged the ECU (battery terminal method).

When scanning with ROSS-Tech cable, it comes up with communications errors.

Anecdotally I hear what sounds like a relay kicking in every say 30 seconds, and then I hear (i think) the manifold adjusting and then it stops, and repeats after about another 30 seconds over and over.

I think this is intermittently disconnecting power to the ECU thus I cannot trust any fault codes from VCDS.

The car does not start after this. It cranks but wont start. Also the radiator fans spin up 100% and stay like that (engine off key on) until the ignition is turned off.

I have 3 relays in the relay box under the ECU (see picture 2 below).

    1 x 614 in position 2
    1 x 614 in position 3
    1 x 395 in position 1.1

Nothing anywhere else. I have checked the fuses, battery etc.. I have tested the relays with a multimeter and the contacts all see good on the 614s seem right at about 47 ohms on the coil, normally open on the switch and about 5 ohms when contacted manually. I am unsure how to verify the 395. Even so I have read elsewhere that although they can check out as 'good' they can still be 'bad' if you know what I mean?

After I clear the codes via the battery lead discharge method, it will start and then after a short period (say 30 seconds) completely stop. Then back to crank no start.

I believe it is a faulty relay (395). I am picking up replacements for all of them tomorrow from Audi, which I hope solves it.

    I have two (2) questions:

    1. Does this sound like the right logic?
    2. Based on the pictures below (1 from ElsaWin and 2 from my car) should I have a relay in position 1.2? That is, should I have a Starter Inhibitor Relay (J217) in position 1.2?

    Thanks guys

Finally solved. Corrupt ECU map. Cleared ECU and re-mapped. Runs beautiful now.
