Is there any reason i should NOT consider trading my 00 E320 for an 01 AllRoad?

My wallet is far from bottomless

Is that the real on the AllRoads? Just unreliable money pits?

Yes, unfortunately they are. i picked up a 2001 tip allroad for $500 in what i thought was decent shape. after about 3k later i've got a stage 3 K04 6-speed grocery getter. All work done by me, but its my hobby.

But now you have a pretty quick wagon for $3500. That's pretty cheap in my opinion.

I will put that if you find a good one they can be OK for reliability. Nothing crazy will happen with a well cared for allroad. On the flip side if you get a haggard one it can bleed you dry in a shockingly short amount of time. Basically, know what you're getting into and set your expectations.

    If it's an auto, pass.

Your Lexus(Toyota) will be the polar opposite in terms of maintenance compared to the allroad, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Okay one but, BUT, the allroad will provide you with a WHOLE different quality of driving than the Lexus, unless they're both auto.

The main issue is the Tiptronic transmission, followed by the air suspension (common but not too expensive to fix), and then possibly the stock turbos depending on how they were treated and mileage.

The transmission is the biggest weak point by far, IMO.

Nothing wrong with them, but I haven't owned a Japanese car in 20+ years. Been driving various Euros (BMW, Audi, Land Rover, Mercedes) The Merc being my least favorite honestly

Wow I'm retarded, for some reason I read your original post as saying "es300" my bad, but even still, you really gotta love an allroad to drive one.

And I see that you already have a c5(thought your name looked familiar) so it'll be like that, just add a very costly air suspension.

I love mine, but I wouldn't recommend one to someone unless they were going to do the work themselves.
The one thing I farmed out, an air spring, cost my $1000. Because I didn't have the time to wait for one to come in and then to fix it.
That was one part I thought would stay good as it was already replaced once with a front set of Arnotts.
Everything else has been done by me.

I say do it they are great cars. If it was not cared for it'll put you in the hole. I never had a problem with the transmission in my car. Aside from maintenance stuff no problems. I had a b5.5 a4 my a6 now and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on an allroad.

this can be as issue if you trash your car
i just rolled 212k on mine, still running original turbos, tranny, motor internals, and the interior looks like it only has 50k on it
i will say that the reverse gear is a bit touchy and ive noticed some odd shifting anomalies while city driving, but on WOT, it holds the shifts fine and no slipping as far as i can tell.

the trick is finding one that has been properly maintained

The 5HP ZF transmissions in all C5s are ticking time bombs, IMO.

Exactly. When you pay $500 for a 14year old luxury car that cost $50K new (that's $69K in 2016 dollars) you have to expect to dump cash into it. That's not "unreliabilty" or being a "money pit", it's "reality".
