    Well guys, it's been fun......

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
......but it's time to move on. As I speak, a 2013 Tornado Red Golf R is on it's way to KC to spend it's life as my new daily. Went to Carmax on a whim the other day and they offered me a decent amount for a trade in, so I accepted it. I'm going to miss the V8 and the torque that goes along with it, but I'm pretty excited for the new car and all of the mod options and gas mileage. I drive 20k miles a year, so a more economic daily driver is needed. Thanks to everyone on here that's been a help to me over these past four years I'll still be checking in from time to time and who knows, maybe another B7 is in my future......

The thought of going to Carmax to get a written offer has crossed my mind a couple of times. Good luck with the R!

Actually, the offer wasn't bad and wasn't much less than I would get privately on an 07 6spd with 147k miles and shitty peeilng paint. Only downside was the interest rate they offered, but I went to my own bank and got a waaaaaay better rate, so it all worked out.

Not sure if you got a DSG or the 6-speed but one thing i've seen from the performance shop next to me is that the Golf R's in 6-speed somehow are able to downshift into 1st gear from 6th. Now this is a performance shop and the 2 that i've seen and talk to them about all say that the cars were on the track when this occured. They went into a turn and downshifted from 6th aiming for 3rd but went into 1st. One blew the motor the other blew the transmission. Just something i've seen and heard about the golf R's. Other than that they are really great cars. I do a lot of alignments for them because they get lowered from my neighbor so thats where i get to drive them a bit after im done haha. GL and gratz on the move.

Thanks man, I'll definitely be wary of that. I did get the 6spd actually. I was originally looking for a manual B8 S4, but didn't find any I liked within my price range. I've been kind of looking at R's for the past few years and decided to go for it. I can't wait to get in it and start adding parts!

That generation R is a blast, they're no slug. What was the offer they made you if you dont my me asking? Totally understand if you'd like to keep that info to yourself though.

    Either way, enjoy!

I've been looking at the R's as well, although at this point the V8 is just too hard to give up. At some point, when my S4 starts getting too expensive, I might very well go there.

Man, I've listed my car twice, and almost traded in once before but couldn't pull the trigger. It was time though. At 147k, it would only start costing me more. I also drive a ton, so I could really use the better gas mileage. I know I'll be back im an audi in the future, but this was just he right move for me. I'm definitely happy with it.

Hmm... I may go to see if what they'll me offer for an 06 6spd with 89k. Not like I am trying to get rid of it but I've been wondering what price would be for the car since the prices for these cars have fallen off quite a bit since I bought mine.

I think it all depends on whether or not the car has low enough miles to go on the lot or go to auction. To give you an idea, they offered me 13.5k when I had roughly 112k miles on it. I have 147k on it now and the paint is in worse condition and still got 8k for it. I could have got more sellig it privately for sure, but then I would have had to deal with the hassle of listing it and dealing with buyers. I'll take a few grand hit to not have to go through that.

That's not bad. I was expecting 4-5 range. Guess, there is only one way to find out.

His car was an S4 not an RS4. I read the thread a few times thinking I missed something huge!! That would be an amazing deal.

As of last month, I too stepped out of my B7 in favor of a B8.5. Never thought I'd miss the B7 so much. Although I have this feeling every time I trade a modded car for something new/stock. However, once the mods start flowing I'm sure it will ease the pain of losing the third pedal and V8 . Curious to see if you feel the same... The B7 body is timeless.

I actually let it go with the mods. Going back to stock would have been a pain, and since most of the mods came with the car when I bought it, I didn't really lose anything.

In just comparing the performance, the power delivery is definitely different, but I expected that. It lacks the raw feeling of the V8 and the powerband isn't as smooth, but with it being smaller, it still feels just as quick. I also can't really compare the suspension and braking as all of that was upgraded on the S4(coilovers, swaybars, poly snub & rear diff mounts, BBK) but I'm still happy with the stock performance of the R. One of the things I really like is the overall visability in the cockpit. It's very open feeling. The shifter seems to sit a little bit more forward than the S4. It's definitely going to take some getting used to. I am liking the bluetooth streaming though and overall newness of the interior, and the seats feel similar to the Recaros in the S4. Lastly, my gas mileage went way up, my insurance dropped $34 a month, and my oil changes are going to be half the cost. I drive 20k miles a year, so in the end, I'm still getting a fun car that is actually going to be cheaper to own. I'm very happy with the decision and look forward to modding it in the future. Right now, I'm going to enjoy it stock for a little bit and then move onto stage 1, then stage 2+, then eventually stage 3.

So, I'm still lurking around on this forum, so I thought I would share an update on the R. Meant to keep it stock for a while, but let's be honest, that wasn't really going to happen.....Things are going well, so I guess you could say this relationship is getting pretty serious.....

Ha, you're not the first person to say that. Tint is coming, just haven't been able to schedule it for a time that works for me. I can't believe how little it took to make this car faster than the S4. I'm completely happy with my decision. Maybe leave it fishbowl for a while longer so people can see the stupid smile on my face
