    Sloppy Drivetrain Movement Fix

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
When coming to complete stop and go, it feels like either motor mounts or trans mount is bad.

So when I stop completely and then go, there is a sloppy kick i get from the drivetrain. More when the vehicle is not leveled, (like going up a hill).

The transmission shifts great, no problems with it.

The motor mounts aren't leaking, and the trans mount looks okay to me. What could it be?

    Thanks!

Motor mounts would still be my guess. Particularly the pass side one as I believe it is the one that fails most often.

    Thanks for your reply.

They arent leaking or show any sign of damage. Any other way to test them if they are any good?

Is it like a surging forward when you release the brake? Almost like a studder. I get this as well, thought it was something with the brakes.

Check the motor mounts. You won't know they're bad until you pull them out.

You can only observe so much of the mount without pulling it from the car. I did the same thing and didn't realize the damage until I removed the mount and looked closer.

Not when i release the brakes. More like when im about to take off from a complete stop. If i accelerate slowly then it doesnt do it all the time, but if just press the gas normally to pick up speed then 90% of the time if gives me thank clunk.

It's a reasonable timeframe to need a new one yeah. Might only need the pass side one.

I see you had replaced a front axle boot previously. It may be that CV joint has damage from the previously torn boot.

I will actually replace that sometime this weekend. Planning to do a DIY and post it up here for others. But i'm not sure...Its not really that bad, it still has plenty of grease in there.

I did, But i kinda want that smooth Audi ride (with this car). I installed the street density 034 mounts on my B5 S4 and that made it real stiff, there's cabin vibration and that whole deal but i dont mind it on that car, because that's more for fun. But the B8 i want it to be as comfy as possible. lol

Just do the stiff mount on the pass side and leave driver side OEM. Lettuce says that made a huge diff on his car and very little NVH. I know swapping both mounts makes it harsher at stops and idle for sure.

If you want I have 2 x 034 mounts for sale. They have less than 5k on them.

I also agree with this. I swapped mine in the same order and noticed a ton more NVH after changing the driver's side.

I wonder if that's because they were both stiffer or just because it was the driver's side. Anyone do the driver's side first?

I believe the pass side one is the one that fails first in the vast majority of cases

My car is really clunky when downshifting especially from 3 to 2 and 2 to 1.

Shifts as smooth as butter when up shifting. Anyone else have the clunky downshifts in those low gears?
