Those of you with the roc euro intake, help please

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I'm installing the roc euro intake which I purchased from a forum member.

I'm a little skeptical as to what I've received because: I'm following the install PDF on roc euro's website and this is what I see in comparison

1: the pipe smells and looks like it's been spray painted.

    2. The breather filter doesn't look the same as in the instructions..

    3. Upon installing the shield it seems two things are off or missing.

This is roc euros picture with the rubber fin facing left, mine is facing right

    4. Heat shield

Roc euro claims there is a lip attached to the bottom that the two rubber grommets squeeze in place, mine does not have this

I'm texting the owner now to see what's going on before I take this back to his original for sale thread and change the tone of my conversation.

Anyone chime in please with some clarification or advice?

I've installed many a intakes before and know my way around an engine bay/modding something as simple as an intake.

Am I going stupid or is this a bait and switch with me on the receiving end.

    Thanks

Everything looks like roc-euro... just slightly crappier. Could this be an older version of the intake? My heat shield definitely has the flap towards the intake (left), and a bottom piece that attaches with plugs.

Not sure if this helps any, but here's a few pics I had off my cell phone of my intake.

Thank you for the response. It may very well be an older version? Maybe I'll email roc euro and see what they say. I'm relieved your breather filter looks the same. Your air filter, how does it fit to the pipe. Solid and mated easy? I had to push mine slightly more inward into the piping and tighten the clamp down after. My filter is also pretty dirty, I may go buy the K&N cleaner kit tomorrow, or consider purchasing a replacement filter down the road. Your coupler to the intake body, was it tight to fit? Or big enough to easily slip over and then clamp. Mine wasn't very tight at all. It secured in place fine with the clamp but I may be overthinking that one.

Most importantly, how does your heat shield stand in the engine bay. Is it wobbly like the video I posted?

I decided to finish the install through and go drive the car. Fortunately, after everything was put in. The shield doesn't move very much. It seems the intake pipe itself puts enough pressure onto the shield in the right angle that it stays fairly stationary. And when I shut the hood, it doesn't seem like it has any room to play around.

I went for a drive and didn't hear any abnormal noises or clunking going on. And I banged through each gear to make sure. I'll keep my eyes on this tomorrow when I drive it to further monitor. At least the supercharger whine was there, and that put a smile on my face. And the throttle response has seemed to pick up slightly, to go with what the intake performance claims it does.

I'm still very skeptical about everything though. Very strange...

This is why I don't like buying used parts. The hassle and frustration isn't really worth the discount in price IMO

First - the pipe looks spray painted. Seller probably had an issue with the pipe running too closely against something and it left marks. But, this is a known issue (there is a thread about it)
Second - the breather filter is legit.
Third - the flapper piece comes off. Just pull it off and reverse it.
Fourth - The lip should have been shipped with the heat shield. It's probably still stuck in the seller's engine bay, lol.

All the pieces are replaceable by John@RocEuro. Problem is, it is extremely difficult to get him to send it out (also talked about in another thread). I've successfully gotten him to send the lip piece to me, but still waiting for the flapper--asked for that last year and have since given up, lol. The heat shield might start to rattle after awhile even with the lip (mine did), but imo, it only helped a little. I had to lay down heat-resistant padding underneath to cancel the extra rattling, which sounds (pun intended) ridiculous, but its what i did. Thank goodness, there a lot of other better designed ones out on the market now, so I may consider other options at some point. You may want to too.

its roc euro. Just with the pipe. Before roc euro bought out that company that made the intake the original ones were not painted. I wouldn't worry about the paint. If you don't like it just sand it down and repaint it. Also as far as the heat shield. It does sux it doesn't get held down very well. that little foam piece that your missing tears almost every time. And that one piece being on the wrong side I wouldn't worry to much about that little piece. If your that worried about it you can buy a little piece and put it on. I would just run it and your good. Just make sure that the pipe doesn't rub on your A/C line and your good.

Wrap the pipe, go to Home Depot, buy the foam use a high temp glue. These intakes fall apart smh.

Clarify with the seller when they purchased it, it might be time to wash the filters (K&N filter cleaner kit) or just replace them anyways. Maybe ask for a 10-15% discount based on age and if you have to shell out to clean the filters. As for everything else, I haven't seen anything that's cause for concern in your pics.

I found after a few AutoX runs that the fuel line gets really hot and sags, so I got a few angle brakets and some JB weld and fashioned a supper for the fuel line which resembled the AWE one. Then I got pissed off with how shabby it looked and ordered the AWE one lol. With the OEM air hose, the fuel line clips onto the resonator box for support so I wanted to replicate that.

Thank you guys for the clarification. I feel a little better about it.

I may very well do some "modifying" to it when I get time. Like trying some padding or adhesive to support the bottom better.

Thanks for the tip on the fuel line.

I did notice one of the lines the instructions tell you to remove is attached to the stock air hose by a clip. And on the roc euro shield it shows a little empty square where I think this same clip can be attached to to continue carrying the line. However, the clip is permanently attached to my OEM air hose. I may have to find some similar kind of clamp/squared connector to replicate that like you said.

Lord Magnet - re: your last pic, it's hard to tell but it looks like the damage is to an aluminum coolant line. That is not an AC line. I just installed the Roc Euro intake tonight and on mine, there is about an 1/8" clearance in the same spot. I was concerned that over time the coolant line would get damaged. And, your pic sort of confirmed it for me.

The overall fit is not as "solid" as I prefer. Lots of potential play in all directions IMO. Not sure how long this will stay installed on my car.

    Sorry for the zombie thread...

Some people were saying AC line, some were saying coolant line. The only thing I'm positive of is that I don't know what it is.

I ended up taking the suggestion of some other people that were having this same issue. I installed a high temperature silicone hose around the spot it was rubbing. P.S. This looks nicer from farther away, lol.
