    APR Fault codes

    I was out driving yesterday night and raced a E55 - destroyed it by the way. But after that I got to valet at the restaurant we were going to eat. When I went into the APR app to switch to valet mode these fault codes showed up. Note sure if it was related to me driving it hard before getting to the restaurant or from something perviously. I don't know exactly when the fault codes generated.

    I cleared the fault codes and as of now nothing popped back up. Car is driving normal. What do these codes exactly mean?

    The knock sensor code shows that there was higher than expected voltage returned on that circuit. The most likely cause is that the sensor detected knock, but it could be a sensor and/or wiring issue. You say you were beating on the car earlier... did you use different gas, were you on the right map for the octane, etc.?

    The Secondary Air Injection System faults are a common problem with these cars. There is an air pump that introduces additional air into the exhaust stream on cold starts to speed up the heating of the catalytic converters for emissions control purposes. Audi TSB 2036558/1 addresses the problem by replacing the pump. I've had this problem pop up on my car a few times in the past and I've just cleared the codes since it doesn't affect performance or driveability nor does it illuminate the check engine light.

    I was low on fuel, had to fill up after eating. I always put the best gas and was on the 93 octane map. My buddy had a knock in his M5 and he ended up having to replace the motor. It's kinda concerning when I seen a knock fault code come up.

    Next time I remove tune and go to deal I will bring that TSB up. Was the replacement done free of charge under warranty.

    One detonation is not going to blow an engine. The knock sensor obviously was tripped and likely pulled back timing a little in response. I do wonder about how "close to the edge" these ECU tunes are however, taking into account varying environmental and operating conditions. Maybe it would be best to fill up with 93 octane and then just run the 91 program most of the time ???

    Your buddy's M5 was, for whatever reason, detonating repeatedly. That will certainly damage the motor.

    I'm now running Unitronic's 91 octane tune with 93 octane. To start with I was using gas that had an ethonol content and it gradually went off song (lost performance). Fortunately my Unitronic's dealer suggested switching to gas without the ethonol and sure enough it gradually came right again.

    I'm glad I've had no engine error codes with the Unitronic tune. It gives me a lot of confidence in the tune. I've never moded a car under warranty before, but I had to have the rs6 performance (without the extra rs6 lag), after driving the rs6, and still have a sedan.

    To the OP, reseting the engine fault codes does a lot more than just remove the codes. If you get through one or two tanks of gas and the code hadn't returned, you have nothing to worry about.

    I have 4 maps- 93,100, stock and valet.
    Never had the 91 map. Is that one safer? Or am I missing something?

    I think all gas in south Florida has 10 or 15% enthonal. I have seen enthonal free gas at race track but I think it was 87 or 89 octane never higher.

    I'll see how it goes after a few tanks of gas, hopefully it doesn't come back up.

    I have valet, stock, 91, 93. I have honestly never used valet. I have used stock in the winter with slippery road conditions. 91 is still plenty fast. 93 provides a bit of a torque bump at around 3000 rpms over the 91 program and 10 more hp. Just saying that if you are getting a knock code, you do need to back off somewhere. Maybe the air temps were too high, gas was not what it was claimed to be....etc. Running a 91 program while using 93 gas will just give you a bit of a safety margin with little degradation in daily driving performance. Of course, when you go to the strip, you may still want to go to max settings.
