Good morning guys! 2002 Audi S4 Avant here.
OEM Speaker sizes:
Front Doors- 4"
Front Tweeter- 1"
Rear Doors- 5.25"
I had a blown rear door speaker so I am in the process of replacing my 4 door speakers. I am keeping the Bose head unit and bought JBL 2 ohm speakers. (4" front, 6.5" rear). I installed the rears last night with no issues just had to run to home depot to get some spacers and longer screws.
My question is on the front doors.
I am installing 4" coax speakers but will also be replacing the 1" tweeter. I have been told to ditch as much of the factory wiring as possible.
Do I run front door speaker wire (+) and (-) to my crossover and then from there split to the 4" coax and 1" tweeter? Or does the Bose head unit have some built in crossover that I just connect the speaker directly up to the door speaker wire and cut and solder the new 1" tweeters into the existing Audi tweeter wiring/
I am leaning towards the first option just concerned that the crossover will take away all the needed frequencies to correctly power the 4" coax speaker. (i know it is kinda pointless to run two tweeters up front- reason being is that i bought a 6.5" component speaker kit and a 4" coax speaker kit. The 6.5 woofers were used in the rear doors and I wanted to use the 1" tweeter and crossover and add it to the front doors with the new 4" coax speakers)
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!
