    2006 b7 s4 deal

So, I own a 14 GTI DE, but a deal just came across and I'm thinking about it going for it.

I have the opportunity of buying a B7 S4 for $8K with 80K Miles and in very good condition. The vehicle has over $8K in extras (owner has receipts) with navigation and all the good stuff..Im buying it from an auction, BUT damage is in the back (trunk), no damage susp, differential, etc.

My question for y'all is, how saleable is it? should I buy it ? I've heard a lot of horrible things about the timing chain and possibly a blown engine. My intention is to flip it and make some cash of it.. is it possible?

Please give me your input and if its a good idea..

    Thanks

if your flipping it I wouldnt worry about the horrible things that could happen, that price, mileage and those receipts = steal (if its a clean title)

*there is a buyer for every car, but depending on what you will be asking for it, it may take a while

    (1) You need the full service mechanical history
    (2) What is the title listed as ? Salvage
    (3) There is no quick turn around because....

Point being that A... The only time these motors blow up is due to negligent owners not adhering to german car service demands. So you need to know why it was sold instead of just repaired... Food for thought I have 164,000 miles on my S4, no cold start up or warm rattle so it is all about due diligence of frequent oil/filter changes and staying on top of small parts wearing out...

There is a lot of bad press about this motor which is unwarranted since it is used in other Audi platforms..... Figure out wether you will part out or repair and sell...
Crunching the numbers will direct you to which option.... Personally I would not buy a damaged S4 simply on the basis that there are other S4's out there for reasonable ask prices with zero damage..

And most importantly your time also counts as incurred costs versus profitable returns...

BTW / PS...... The $8,000 extras are irrelevant since extras are rarely recouped cost wise in future sales.... So take that out of the equation. Basically buy the car because you want it but as an investment vehicle ( no puns ) It always looks better on paper than the real world result...

Thanks bro..It will be a clean/clear title in my state. I can buy the car for less than $3K at the auction + $4K-5K on repairs. You brought up a good point tho..I can buy and part it out, but will that bring some cash in or not really?

Im just another guy trying to make some extra cash on the side you know..Is not to feed my family or pay rent, is just to add some more to the savings account. My fear on repairing is that it will not sale due to other vehicles without any damage and also, not a lot of people has $12K+ cash to buy a car nowadays (NOT A LOT, SOME DO) and on parting it out, that I will not make the money back. Im sure just the motor is worth $3K+, right?

Depends if you are a dealer or not...

If you are a dealer with under 80k miles you have to warranty the car for 2k miles or 2 months.. Above 80k, 1k or 1 month...

If the car has oil burning problems and scoring you will be buying them a new motor.. If the timing chain has issues you will be fixing that, or you will lose your dealer liscence...

If you are private, think about how you will transport the car and test drive it with out dealer plates till you sell it...

If you register it yourself, there will be a taxable incendent and you have to put that into the equation...

My personal opinion is if you want the potential for a serious problem then go ahead, you can Make decent return, but understand it could blow up in your face.... Could, not will....

There are much easier cars to make money than these...

I agree that if your motor literally blows up it is probably due to negligence however many of these engines have failed with perfect maintenance history.
