2014 S6 Sales Numbers...

Whenever I tried to find how many S6's were sold in the US I could never seem to find accurate numbers. I finally contacted Audi via email and low and behold I got a response! They needed my VIN as a starting point which I provided them.
We don't realize how limited these cars are. 1309 S6's were sold here in 2014. As a comparison I had a 2012 CTS-V sedan. Cadillac built 2012 ( number matches the year) sedans that year. To say these cars are rare would be an understatement. It's pretty cool that they even broke out the sales numbers with color and interior colors as well. Only 426 S6's were built with my color and interior combinations. I was trying to get the year by year numbers but I would need a VIN from each year for them to run. Maybe others can get them and post them here.

· There were 1,309 MY 2014 Audi S6 SEDAN 4.0T QUATTRO S-TRONIC’s sold in the US.
· There were 454 MY 2014 Audi S6 SEDAN 4.0T QUATTRO S-TRONIC’s with PHANTOM BLACK PEARL EFFECT exteriors sold in the US.
· There were 426 MY 2014 Audi S6 SEDAN 4.0T QUATTRO S-TRONIC’s with PHANTOM BLACK PEARL EFFECT exterior and BLACK interior sold in the US.

I had done a similar thing and documented what I found on my site and in a thread here. Looks like the results coming back for MY14 are consistent in their responses which is always nice. They just need a VIN and if people contributed or sent the mail to them with theirs corresponding to their color, we could build this out even further.

They are very rare cars. RS cars and the R8 are even rarer still. Think of it this way.....there are more Honda Accords sitting on one dealer lot in some small insignificant town than there are S6s in an entire state !! Of course these cars are also likely more concentrated in more affluent coastal states. Not sure how many S6s (and alike) you will find in Arkansas (and alike). My Cayman GTS is rarer still. About 350 sold in the U.S. for each of 2 model years, 2015 and 2016. That's all. Of course, in some circles, this is a not considered an exclusive number. Think about the 7 Lykan Hypersports in the entire world.

Not sure it matters/if it resolves to same mailbox, but checking my emails they went to [email protected] ...I'm sure they're one and the same.

So, when they give you the results, they also include the numbers for the color based off your VIN?

I gave them my VIN for starters (2103, brilliant black exterior with black interior), and this is what they came back with:

• 115 - Model Year 2013 Audi S6 4.0T QUATTRO S TRONIC with Brilliant Black exteriors sold in the US.
• 109 - Model Year 2013 Audi S6 4.0T QUATTRO S TRONIC with Brilliant Black exteriors and Black interiors sold in the US.

I then followed up with similar questions for different years. A couple of the VINs turned out not being brilliant black, hence you see the results as they are on my page.

Now is a great time to buy a used S6, it took me ages to find one with the right options at the right price.

I first started looking in 2014 thinking the original ones may be coming off two year leases. I found about 2-3 for sale nationwide and all were outside my price range. I waited patiently for about a year, checking regularly but there were never more than 3-5 for sale at a time and waiting for them to hit my price range. Finally one came locally at a great price with all the options I wanted and I sprung for it feeling I had won the internet car search. Despite my better judgement I didn't delete my saved search and continued to keep tabs on S6's, and they did climb to 5+ at a time in late 2015. Once the 2014's started to hit the used market it went up to 10ish, but their higher prices had me feeling good about my purchase.

Admittedly I haven't checked much in a month or so, but my saved search on autotrader just yielded 23 available nationally!

Power BI view of these numbers...let me know if it doesn't come up for you (I think the permissions are right, but would be good for someone to verify). Once I (hopefully) get more of the VIN data back from Audi, that'll be pretty fun to use. All charts are connected to each other, so if you click an item in one, the other charts update to reflect it.

Anyway...too much time on my hands this weekend ;)

Well that's cool to know. I have the Lunar interior, so I'm one of just 67 for my model year. I feel so special now!
