    Engine cover warranty claim

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was showing the engine of my S6 to a guy at work last week, and the insulation layer underneath the cover just straight up fell off... the 8 or so points where it's adhered to the plastic cover just separated. Obviously this area experiences high heat, and it looks like the adhesive just broke down over time.

Getting my car serviced as we speak, and they're replacing the cover under warranty. What was interesting, is that they said they had to order the "3rd revision" of this cover! That means there's clearly been issues with this over the model release, and hopefully this will fix it.

Just a heads up for those of you with a 13-14 model and still in warranty... I'd pry that sucker off myself, to get the new updated cover that will hopefully last longer! Haha. I'll see if I can spot the difference when I get the new one.

This is funny, I forgot to post a similar story here - same thing happened to me! The new cover took 3-4 weeks to come in (presumably from Germany?). It just arrived at my dealer recently, I need to swing by and grab it.

Yeah. My insulation section has separated from the top cover. I guess it's okay if it just lays on top of the turbos? I'll need to stop by dealer and see if I can get a new one ordered as well.

Looks like its definitely an issue! I'd get the new one under warranty if I was you, also!

Why not, right? Sucks having to lay it down on the turbos and line the cover up... not to mention looks awfully ghetto and cheap on a 85K car.

Good to know. I haven't tried removing the cover on mine. Does it just pull off/snap back on, or are there screws involved? Might take a quick look today.

4 rubber grommets, one on each corner... just pulls straight up (with a slight tug)! If you haven't, you should... it's awesome underneath!

If you're just doing something like this under warranty. Do they still hook your car up or is there any risk for TD1 flag??

probably at the whim of the dealer. Believe Audi's letter to them some time ago basically says to run the scan each time the car comes in for service. Some dealers follow that to the letter, others only run the scan if they need to diagnose a particular problem. Best option is to find a service advisor/tech who will not run the scan unless it is necessary and they have cleared it with you first.

This happened to me at around 8,800 miles. My SA ordered a replacement without hesitation, and popped it on in the parking lot a couple days later. The new one has been fine since July, 2014 and some 25,000 miles.

Curious if that was rev 2 or the newest?

I'll let you know the part number.

Good question... I'll have to dig around in my paperwork to see if I can find one.

Any warranty work on mechanics or electronics is supposed to have a GFF scan. I don't know that they'd actually need to for a physical defect though.

Still don't have it back... They found a coolant leak while doing the routine service and checks. Last I heard they had the front bumper off the car, trying to find it! Apparently far down low, behind rad support somewhere.

This A3 loaner, while fun and peppy at first, is starting to wear on me. Haha

Finally got my car back... coolant leak delayed the return, but all good now!

Anyway, here's the new engine cover in all it's glory:

I did notice a significant difference in the way it's mounted on the underside. There's a series of plastic tabs that the insulation piece now slides under on the bottom edge, with black push-pins in 2 spots that penetrate the insulation itself! They clearly don't just rely on the adhesive to hold this on anymore (for good reason). I'd say if you have an old style with the adhesive, it's just a matter of time before it falls apart... warranty it while you can!

Here's the only stamping of numbers I could find... if this is a part number, I'll be damned to be able to decipher it!
