Maybe 2 miles of my commute every day are highway miles, and the other 10 each day are on side roads. I average 200-220 per tank, and I typically read 50-60 miles left when I fill up. If I do all highway miles and I'm not goosing it, I've seen as much as 380 on a single tank, which is actually quite nice when you consider my "miles left" gauge never tells me more than 365 miles when I top off.
I am at high altitude, and there's arguments both ways regarding how gas mileage is impacted by the high altitude. Some say that the thinner air reduces drag and improves mileage, while others argue that since the engine is working harder you get worse mileage. I've always found that forced induction vehicles, especially turbos, get quite a bit higher MPG than what a manufacturer claims, while naturally aspirated vehicles get less. My STI was rated for 24 MPH highway and I usually average 28 to 29 on the highway, and that was with stage 2 mods and goosing the pedal pretty regularly.
